Attention Nvidia GPU / Driver users! update to latest kernel and drivers could cause issue on plasma wayland [resolved]

there may be a gently new version of the Linux nucleus ?
longterm: 6.6.54 2024-10-04

here i can see that the patch https://gitlab.archlinux.org/archlinux/packaging/packages/nvidia-utils/-/blob/main/make-modeset-fbdev-default.patch?ref_type=heads

is applied for 560.35.03-6 this is still in testing: https://archlinux.org/packages/extra-testing/x86_64/nvidia-utils/
current is still: 560.35.03-5

It’s not entirely clear what the changes are.
I’m just guessing.

next on arch is 53 not 54

It’s already version 09 and people are complaining.

Lots of messages scattered across forums. I find it hard to make sense of it.

But it looks like they rushed to integrate this update into the Arch system.

thats nvidia package not nvidia-utils.
I will go into some testing.

WOW,

You must agree to the following in order to register

These forums are for Arch Linux x86_64 ONLY.

Not ****, or ********, or *******, or any of the “easy Arch installers”, nor Arch-ARM; nothing other than vanilla 64-bit Arch Linux. Ask those communities for support.

wow, they give it to you, and the arch forum looks like a garbage dump.
Well, I don’t think I found my problem.
Everyone is complaining about the 6.11.1 version of the Core.
And I, on the contrary, have problems with lts

Why are there so few people with problems?
Or are they all spread thinly across many forums, discussing the same thing, without coordinating the problem?

Not a single issue here latest packages nvidia drivers and nvidia 3060 gpu plasma wayland using sddm…

@Dell
I’m a little confused as to what your issue is. If you are up to date and the current 6.11 kernel loads and the lts kernel doesn’t then something isn’t right with lts. Did you install linux-lts and linux-lts-headers?

arch is arch, EndeavourOS uneven arch, and they do not support there why they should be forced to do so also?

I would recommend to open a new issue instead? your issue is not the same as this thread is for.

linux-lts 6.6.52-1
linux-lts-headers 6.6.52-1
:face_with_raised_eyebrow:

I did an update today eos-update --yay

Why not? That’s my problem.

Isn’t endeavouros almost pure arch that updates everything from the arch servers. It’s more like you’re helping them install it, so they might not update like that either.

Basically, it was Arch that broke everything, wasn’t it?

I don’t want to participate in your “who is the coolest Arch” fights, but I’ve already seen 4 forums where they are essentially discussing problems with Nvidia and this update.

And there is no solution anywhere, and most importantly it is not clear who is responsible for this and who to write to.

what?
I understand you could be frustrated, but calm down a bit if you want to get help.

That’s non-sense.

Your issue is not the same no one her eis reporting issue with LTS kernel i see only users switching to LTS and it does work with it…
The nvidia drivers and modules are produced by Nvidia not Arch nor EndeavourOS.

And there is no need to witch hunt the person or organisation causing the issue, it is about resolving the issue itself.

And solutions are posted here and also on discussion on arch forum and bug report.

I see also issues with LTS same as on latest kernel driver and modules are not working fully indeed. just booted on LTS with nvidia-lts package and it detects only one of two displays. Same with nvidia package and latest kernel booting (no boot options set) if i use nvidia-dkms all is fine from detection but under wayland performance is very bad, so something also not fully perfectly working.

As i posted before the patch is in -6 pkgrel version still only in testing repo… i will go test this one now…

I can confirm i just installed the lts kernel and headers and i have no issue booting and logging in with nvidia.

[ricklinux@asus-tuff ~]$ uname -a
Linux asus-tuff 6.6.52-1-lts #1 SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Wed, 18 Sep 2024 19:02:04 +0000 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Just installed testing versions and it seems to resolve all the issues … all displays properly detected performance is back to normal on wayland:

but you set the boot options for drm modesetting and fbdev?

Yes i still have it set even with the updated nvidia drivers. I could remove it and check also.

Edit: I just removed the kernel parameter and updated grub. It still boots and loads on the lts kernel with nvidia no problem.
