Hi there, so i have just recieved a 7900xtx from a room mate of myself. And only having OBS open causes my system to crash. Basically power down (force) and reboot. Not entirely sure on how to actually grab the logs for this to figure out what the cause is as i would love to keep on streaming.
Computer specs
R7 5700X3D, 64GB ram 3800mhz, 7900xtx (fresh) and a complete re-install of the EndevorOS Cinnamon.
I’m at a stump as im not entirely sure on how to actually fix it. I just assume it’s OBS as i crash every time i have it and just normal stuff i have open it doesn’t.
Edit: Scratch that… it’s not OBS. as in 35m from this post… computer shuts down. So it could be over heat or im not entirely sure… im at a stump about this
Hello @skipptekk!
1.) What model is the 7900 XTX, is it new or used?
2.) How many watts does your power supply have and what model is it?
3.) What are the temperatures of the graphics card (GPU, GPU junction and memory)?
Hi there @shadow359 and thanks for replying so quickly!
- Sapphire pulse, brand new. 3 days old
- watts… not entirely sure, and my PSU is 850 (booted up Enshrouded on max settings, Watt is around 300)
- Memory: 90~ or lower, Junction 80~ or lower, temperature i have seen go to 75 or lower.
- Not entire sure where to grab the model. But it’s this one https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B0BR6HZZ6Z
- Yes it’s under load. I got max settings and playing on Enshrouded to test it.
Update: Wattage went up too 350 for a few seconds a few times Memory 90,Junct 90, Temp 75
Edit: My brain went stupid. I also find it funny i can play SC (star citizen) or DCS (digital combat simulator) all day and not crash… But playing Minecraft modded with Shaders… not so much
Also, sorry i gotta pass out. I’ll reply when i get up

Alright i’m up, what else would you need
Hello @skipptekk !
Unfortunately, I only saw your message last night just before I went to bed.
The information about the power supply unit is still missing.
If possible, use a PCE-E connector and a separate line for each 8-pin connection on the graphics card if you have enough connections on the power supply. Avoid splitters if possible.
You can check the cabling again and please do not swap the EPS cables for the CPU power supply (8 and or 4/4 pin) with the PCI-E cables. As these have a different pin assignment, short circuits can occur. Normally these do not fit into the corresponding sockets unless force is used.
What I mean by this is that with my power supply (Enermax Maxtytan 800W), for example, 3 separate lines lead to the 3 8-pin connectors.
I first thought that your problem had to do with the temperatures or the power supply (power supply unit) as a sudden switch-off (without user intervention) of the computer indicates this.
The temperatures, at least for the graphics card, are OK so far and your PC seems to be stable under load? At least that’s the impression I’ve gotten so far.
So it could also be a software problem that I can’t help you much with as a newbie when it comes to EndeavourOS.
Power supply is a corsair RM850 power supply. I’m currently un-tentical it atm to see what cable goes where.
Whoops… looking at the cables. My cpu oe is in a peripheral slot instead of the cou. Swapped and hope this works.
Hello!
Sorry but don’t understand what you have written.
Yeah sorry. Mobile version and my thumbs are bad for that.
translation: Looking at the cables, My CPU cable was in the PCIe slot instead of the CPU slot. So i have swapped the cables (correct oders) and im hoping my computer doesn’t crash again.
And the PC worked like this? Normally it shouldn’t even start like that.
Edit:
But I hope for the best when the cables are now connected correctly.
Same here! And yes the computer has been working fine with that cable setup… lets just hope it’s just this. Currently having my computer setup as it was at a crashing point. Hopefully it works well!
I do appreciate the assistance you have given me

Nope computer took a dump. Powered down with no warning. I think it’s heat but not entirely sure.
Guess we gotta logs. And that i never got good at.
Too bad that your problem has not yet been solved.
How hot does the 5700x3D actually get under load? I know that they don’t get as hot as the 5800x3D, but it would still be interesting to find out.
You can run glances if you have a second screen and check whether the temperatures are okay when playing games or something.
To install it type sudo pacman -S glances
into the console. To run it simple type glances into the console.
I’m off for today. Have a nice day/night.
According to Mangohud. My temps are at 70c and lower. sooo not entirely sure if it’s heat.
Memory about 80-85
junction about 57-80
Temp 70
(told by corectrl)
Just played 4 hour session on max settings on BL3… no crash. so something with minecraft is doing it. shame :v
Hello @skipptekk!
When the unexpected shutdown happens can you please note the time and then enter journalctl -b -1 -e
in the console immediately after the restart?
Maybe we are able to see something in the log.
Edit:
Can you tell me what main board you are using and the BIOS Version?
Can you tell me the exact name of the ram modules?
Edit 2:
To get the full hardware information of your PC please use inxi -Fxxc0z
and post the output here please.
