Hey guys, first of all, thank you in advance and be aware that English isn’t my first language, so I might do some errors…

I am using EndeavourOS with kernel 6.17.9-arch1-1, and I am coming here because I need some help to understand what issues I am exactly facing…

My hardware:

Asrock B850M-Pro-A Wifi (BIOS v3.50), with Secure Boot and Fastboot disabled

Ryzen 5 9600X

Kingston Furry DDR5 5600mhz 16GB

PowerColor RX 9060 XT 16GB VRAM Graphic card

MSI MAG 750W Modular PSU

2SSDS - WD Blue (for root /) and WD Greeen (for /home)

Do you have the wifi regulatory.db installed? Try: pacman -S wireless-regdb

This could be a memory timing issue. Have you tried different, more conservative timing?

I do not see any of this in the log you shared.

I suggest you do a full memtest86+ run to test your RAM.

Hey, it turns out that I didn’t have the wireless-regdb installed, now I did the install…

About the memory timing issue, I didn’t modify anything from manufacturer default on BIOS, perhaps should I change then? Is memory timing the 36-40-40 thing or something else? I have never done any memory modification so I am a bit unsure.

The “Failed to kill idle task” gives me a blue screen with a QR code on it and everything freezes, it happens suddenly and sometimes very short after booting / log-in and others after a while

Those screens still don’t reflect the wireless-regddb as they were previous / I didn’t reboot…

I will run a full memtest to check the RAM.

I can not tell what the right values are. But you should check with memtest86+ if there is a memory issue. If not, you do not need to change anything.

Is your PC on memory pressure when this happens? As far as I know the kernel is only trying to kill processes as part of the OOM-Killer (Out-of-Memory)

I would try using the following kernel parameter

amdgpu.ppfeaturemask=0xfffd3fff

If you are using systemd-boot then you add it to the kernel command line in /etc/kernel/cmdline

and then run sudo reinstall-kernels

If you are using grub bootloader then you would add it to the grub command line in /etc/default/grub and then run the grub update command sudo grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg

I don’t think I was running into memory pressure, It also happens outside games, when I am doing simple / silly things like just using the Console… When I am just using few tabs on Firefox or Ungoogled-Chromium… I would say it doesn’t have a rule…I am still performing memtest

I am with the machine busy, running the memtest, but I will let you know soon!

Uhhhh, I think I found something, how bad is that? So is memory fault confirmed? Hardware fault or memory configuration? Edit: this memtest screen is frozen there too, no ESC, F1 or anything changes.

If there are more than one module installed try to remove the one in bank 1 and replace it with the one in the other bank.

If only one module is installed.. well replace that module and try again

Only one module connected into the B2 slot which is the advice from Asrock Motherboard manual, no EXPO activated or anything modified, default configurations

Are you running the standard test or the long? You shouldn’t get any errors or I would say it’s toast!

Edit: Also make sure your memory is seated properly! :wink:

I was executing the memtest from the EndeavourOS Live USB, if I press F1 says it selected tests 0 to 10… no clue if this means standard or full… I asked a store that I always use to do the builds/PC mount and I didn’t touch the seat, so I guess it should be discarded a wrong seated :smiling_face_with_tear:

If you start memtest86 without any interaction from your side it is automatically doing a full run. A full run includes 14 different tests and can take several hours. In your screenshot your RAM fails at test #9.

Next step is to find out if this is a timing issue with the RAM. Learn about the RAM Settings in your BIOS and select the most conservative = slowest timings for your RAM and repeat the memtest. It that test is successfull, you have a timing issue. If that test fails, the RAM module is broken for sure.

These ram modules are plug & play at 4800 Mhz. I assume you need to set XMP profiles in order to boost the memory speeds and timings in the bios. These are Intel XMP ready & certified.

So, it took me a while because I was running many tests and attempts…

Basically I insisted running another memtest round with Auto JEDEC 4800mhz, which was unsucessful:

After this, I tried the 4800mhz with Manual timing setting, using the Profiles from Asrock, and:

Next, I tried the EXPO Profile 5200, and got this:

This was the unique time that the memtest also didn’t freeze, it still kept running, but I gave up because it surpassed 250k errors…

I also tried the EXPO 5600 profile but the machine didn’t even boot / recognize EXPO 5600 on Memtest…

Finally, I tried to set back the 4800mhz Manual, and also got error:

I was considering to buy a second RAM stick, same model, to get a definitive proof or also discard other things, but the stick is either sold out or too expensive. I will have to call Kingston support on Monday and open a RMA ticket, I suppose, meanwhile I follow RAM prices to later get a new sticker..

I am kinda frustrated with the situation, but at least I am starting to figure out what is happening…

I tried to activate the EXPO profiles and also run the memtest, I got the 5200 Expo profile activated but with more than 200k errors, and the 5600 Expo didn’t even get recognized, I guess it was kinda too unstable… So, I suppose I really got unlucky with this stick

Btw, I just applied the kernel parameter to my grub default configuration and also updated the grub.

Lets see how it goes, if makes the machine more stable.

Anyways, I guess this probably won’t solve alone the RAM headache, which I will give a call to Kingston on Monday, to claim the warranty
