Artists and devs take down their github libraries to stop NFSs

Example:

“I have closed my other generative art projects on Github and won’t be sharing new ones as open source to protect me from the NFT community.”

This is where we are now.

Well, yeah. “Can I sell a thing? Yes? I’ll sell it.”

NFTs are just another Ponzi-type scheme.

I’ve always envied Ponzi. I dunno how many pitches I’ve seen going around in the workplace, but the old saying, “a sucker is born every minute” is pretty truthful. And the people that fall for them–they positively glow–at first. Later on they don’t want to talk about it.

The only thing I do not understand is “Why do people care?” :man_shrugging:

If some idio  person wants to spend money for a service of generating a map of a city, why would the original software developer care? He neither loses money nor profits from that transaction.

It is literally this old meme:

I do not authorize in any way this project to be used for selling NFTs, although I cannot legally enforce it. Respect the creator.

I am now tempted to do the opposite, just in spite, with a message: “Your authorisation is neither requested nor required. Respect is earned, and cannot be demanded.”

Before reading this, I couldn’t care less. Of course, I still do not care enough to invest any effort into this. But just thinking about it is fun.

I have closed my other generative art projects on Github and won’t be sharing new ones as open source to protect me from the NFT community.

Seems like a lame excuse to me. I doubt it’s something I’ll miss, though.
