Is there a problem with posting links to archive dot org on this forum? I ve tried to check on it s legitimacy, and it does have a history of skirting the edge in some respects. Is it considered a taboo website or what?

Internet Archive is a well-respected website. It is an American 501(c)(3) non-profit that categorizes and archives the web (websites via Wayback Machine, public domain images, audio, video, and much more). Their detailed ABOUT section can be found here.
There is a goldmine of things on Internet Archive. I’ve never had issues linking to them on this forum.

I suppose it depends on what you are linking to specifically. In most cases, it should be fine.

Tons of old software.
They are calling it abandon ware. Complete with dos emulator. You can run the software right on the site.

Not just software and games, lots of videos and images also hosted as well as old sites as they where, a great resource and if could afford would donate to it.
