Anyone using Bluesky?

I know some of you don’t use social media. But for those of you who do, Bluesky is an alternative to Muskified X (Twitter) and Mastodon. Seems really easy to discover feeds and customize your feed. So far, I’m liking it quite q bit.

IDK I’m pretty happy with Mastodon :person_shrugging:

I have not used it yet. I’m like @chikenf00t , Mastodon is still enough. I’m about to sign up with Blusky at some point.
The normal users have to go somewhere

I don’t play games or use social media. Must be pretty boring in my bubble

I know a lot of people have recently began moving to Bluesky from Twitter, however, I see Twitter, Bluesky, Mastodon and a lot of other social media platforms as really annoying for a variety of reasons. I see their appeal and I realize that I’m biased quite a bit here, but I seriously believe I’ve dodged a bullet by not being so into social media… besides YouTube.

If you enjoy it, then it isn’t boring.

I am happily social-media free, no Facebook, no Twitter, no Tiktok or any other doomscrolling app. My heart rests easier for it.

That may all be true. But firstly, that was written with irony and secondly, I’m at an age, let’s put it this way, where I have other interests

It seems to be getting a lot more mainstream acceptance as compared to mastadon.

Billionaires aside… :eyes:

I think it’s because people who are privacy-minded don’t promote the alternatives as much as they probably should. That and those who will complain non-stop about big tech but never actually try/seek alternatives.

That said, it’s social media, so the privacy aspect is limited to what you share.

Partially but I think it is primarily the fact that they made it simple and accessible combined with the growing frustration with twitter/x.

Mastodon is simple, though. It’s not like Matrix/Element that makes things difficult even during the initial setup.

The only “complicated” thing about Mastodon is picking an initial instance. But honestly, it’s just join the main server for most people, and if you have a speciality, join a special server.

A choice they don’t have with mainstream apps and services.
Regular people don’t like choice.

A related post from Mastodon’s Patreon. They sent it out earlier today. Just checked my email and saw it.

Just realised people can’t just view this without being a member/Patreon, but I’m guessing it will become accessible to all eventually.

U.S. election results - a critical moment for Mastodon

Patrons and Mastodonians,

Two years ago, Elon Musk acquired Twitter for $44 billion and rapidly corrupted the platform through extensive layoffs and hobbled content moderation. No wonder hate speech and misinformation have flourished on the platform now known as X.

In response, many of you sought an open, secure social media alternative, and joined Mastodon. Crucially, your recurring donations have enabled us to sustain our mission while our user base has grown to over 7.3 million accounts.

Today, with the recent U.S. election results, our work is more important than ever.

The scenario of turning X into an ‘app for everything’, following the Chinese example of WeChat, was previously blocked by regulations. Once Elon Musk has privileged access to the Whitehouse, those hurdles may fall.

Unlike other platforms centrally operated out of the U.S. for a profit of a few, Mastodon is and always will be independent, decentralised, and globally distributed, but our vital mission depends on your support.

Your donations have already accelerated Mastodon’s development by funding two new full-time hires this year, bringing our full-time team to five, but there is still so much work to do.

With additional funding, we will grow our team and be able to apply more effort faster to sustain a safer and more resilient network, including:

  • Enhancing our trust and safety tools, like moderation and server blocklists
  • Usability improvements
  • Quote posts

Thank you for your continued support. Please consider topping up your commitment today by donating what you can or increasing your recurring donation by a dollar or two.

It only takes a minute to fuel a mission that empowers millions.

Thank you,

The Mastodon team and Plushtodon

My X (Twitter) account is now de-activated… gone… done… finished… kaput. I went through those that I followed on X to see who was also on Bluesky so I could follow them there. Buh bye, Musk.

Yeah, it seems to be exploding over there.

It will be interesting to see if the trend continues.

I have seen milkytwix and joe on mastodon. Now I follow you too.

I haven’t been as active as I’d like on Mastodon. I’ll need to rectify that.

Yea, I saw your last post was two years ago or so. But don’t worry, I’m just reading

I’ve been on Mastodon since you mentioned it about a half hour ago. It’s been dreadfully slow for me. I’ll try again later.
