Ok, this is just in the manner of a heads up (or even me too), in case it happens to anyone. My machine is going in for a MB replacement this morning, so I don’t have time to get to the bottom of this (or probably a need, since it’ll probably be fixed tomorrow when I get it back, either by new MB or updates).
However, this morning I was experiencing graphics corruption with regions of the screen (usually top 1/3 or bottom 1/3 (roughly). I just booted to a snapshot from yesterday morning and it seems to not be doing it. It could also be the failing MB..lol.
So..this post…which might help someone.
Thanks for the heads up
Well there is this topic , might be related.
It could be..I was gonna say I don’t have that log..but would I? because I did a rollback.
I hadn’t played a video and I don’t run full screen stuff really…but it could be part of a larger problem.
Ok, I got the machine back with new MB, and the issue was still there…and now I think (testing) it was either plasma reacting badly to an overly large Vivaldi window (possibly below edge of screen) or Vivaldi itself.
Test driving Firefox again and no issue in the last 30 minutes (where it was at least once a minute as I moved mouse around)…
You just never know…
Indeed. I hope you’ve found the culprit.
I think I’m still chasing it. I’m torn between (darn it) hardware issue with the graphics card or a problem with the current plasma. But at this point, I don’t think I’ve really ruled anything out ;(
Firefox seemed to have the issue much less, but still occasionally. I haven’t seen it on Hyprland or Cosmic.
If my current investigation (Cosmic DE) keeps looking favorable, I may install a offline Plasma Endeavour system (giving me older firmware, kernel, and plasma)…
I am glad I somewhat enjoy this stuff (and thus have lots of environments to test out)..though I am not enjoying having issues ![]()
I think i know what you mean: there’s fun in the search for the culprit, but the search should - eventually - result in a resolution.
At least that’s how it works for me.
Yes, one wants the hunt to finally end in a kill..and you hope the kill doesn’t cost money

Well, I got so desperate I actually loaded Windows to confirm it didn’t have an issue (and thus my card hadn’t fried itself)…which is a YAY, though I was pretty sure that after the older load of Endeavour didn’t seem to have any problems…but it never hurts to be sure.
Ok, hmm, now I guess I reload Endeavour again and upgrade the firmware only and see if it breaks, otherwise, i try to report an error to KDE.
I think I’m getting somewhere.
Got it, apparently (dunno why/who), my monitor and graphics card were fighting about the refresh rate of 165 hz, even though it had been fine? Any ideas?
Reducing to 120 and all is now well. I can’t believe I spent 2 days chasing this.
Can not say this for sure but it might be due to the maximum refresh rate supported by your HDMI cable see the link given below.
Yes, I wondered if the cable had been damaged, since it was fine for a year.
