After update no sound via hdmi

Hi,
after the last eos update im missing sound via hdmi.

i think it has something to do with the kernel update

[2024-04-12T10:42:17+0200] [ALPM] upgraded linux (6.8.4.arch1-1 → 6.8.5.arch1-1)
[2024-04-12T10:42:17+0200] [ALPM] upgraded linux-firmware-whence (20240312.3b128b60-1 → 20240409.1addd7dc-1)

[2024-04-12T10:42:19+0200] [ALPM] upgraded linux-headers (6.8.4.arch1-1 → 6.8.5.arch1-1)

my setup:
i have 2 displays, which one of them is a normal computer monitor (dp) and the other is a small tv via (hdmi).

I use an external soundcard/Headphone Amplifier via usb wich works fine
and the tv runs parallel via hdmi video and sound (so i can watch some movies while browsing).

Linux hell 6.8.5-arch1-1 #1 SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Thu, 11 Apr 2024 01:47:33 +0000 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Audio:
Device-1: NVIDIA GP102 HDMI Audio driver: snd_hda_intel
Device-2: GYROCOM C&C Fiio E10 driver: hid-generic,snd-usb-audio,usbhid
type: USB
Device-3: C-Media Marantz Umpire Mic
driver: hid-generic,snd-usb-audio,usbhid type: USB
API: ALSA v: k6.8.5-arch1-1 status: kernel-api
Server-1: PipeWire v: 1.0.4 status: active

some solution would be to revert to the old kernel, but i want to know what went wrong because
it was a normal update and not me breaking stuff.

thank you in advance

Good luck in all your endeavours. :enos_flag:

After some extensive search i found a solution:

Its seems Pulse Audio Volume Control names things other then what it is.

My TV is at hdmi1
in pvacontrol (still using piprewire)
you have to set it (under configuration tab) to “Digital Stereo (HDMI 2) Output”
make sure to set the volume control to 100% in the output tab
make sure to choose your correct audio source in the playback tab

config

output

playback

in the end it seems pvacontrol is switching settings automaticly and at random when not used,
after restart or sometimes after just pausing a show.

For image number 2, you are pointing to HDMI 2, but the checkmark (the currently used device) is Fiio E10 Analog Stereo.

That checkmark determines which device is used for playback. The Playback tab only shows the source of the playback (a media player, web browser, etc.).

So, no matter how high the volume on a device is, it is muted if the checkmark for it is not selected.
