After sleep or logoff, laptop does not wake just blank screen after putting logon password?

After update,if i logoff, it does not wake, just get the logon screen then when i put the password I just get blank screen after, does not login…,… cant log in must force shutdown and reboot again again with power button? If I dont manually logoff and it sleeps itself i just get blank screen and same must shutdown and reboot via power button. (Gnome Kernel: 6.6.6-arch1-1 ). update: even after screen blank timer it stays blank.,does not wake…Must shutdown via power button?

Can you go to TTY with Ctrl-Alt-F3 ? There you could run reboot.

Another idea: look for REISUB on this forum. It should help when the machine gets stuck.

These tips don’t address the original issue but may help preventing the forced shutdown.

You mean alt-PrSc-REISUB?

My problem is system hangs freezes on blank screen after sleep/inactivity and or when I logout…Cant log back in just get blank screen.

Anyhow I tried to use timshift roll back to previous snapshot but that failed just got efi not found or something.

So now luckily I have a clone drive backup from a week ago. Will restore this with Clonezilla then try update system again…But all the problems happened when I updated system earlier today. Not sure what was the issue or if anyone else had same problem after the new kernel update.j

I had similar issues on an older laptop I was running til it died, the fix for mine was to use the LTS kernel (PS a bit more information about your system would probably help others diagnose whats going on)

Yes.

And as suggested here by @smokey , the LTS kernel is worth trying as a workaround.

ok…and my system is Vivobook_ASUSLaptop M7400QE_M7400QE 1.0
PU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800H with Radeon Graphics (16) @ 4.463GHz
GPU: AMD ATI Radeon Vega Series / Radeon Vega Mobile Series
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Ti Mobile.

everything was working ok before the new update.

when it froze I rebooted into LTS kernel same problem still there. Anyhow i restored a week old clone just now w clonezilla and updating to the new kernel right now see if it happens again…

Update: So after a full restore of a clone back up from last week, i did a full update to Kernel: 6.6.6-arch1-1 again just now and the problem still persists. When the system sleeps after inactivity it just hangs on blank screen no cursor mouse, no login, just blank screen. I have to manually push power button to shut down and then reboot.

After reboot all seems ok but then after it sleeps it does not wake again, just blank screen frozen again? this only happened after update to Kernel: 6.6.6-arch1-1
?

As a temporary work around i am just using Caffeine app on infinite mode to keep screen always on to prevent from getting locked out after the sleep screen blank freeze again.
