A Rust Based OS

seems like it could be an interesting project.

I tried to boot it from a USB, and it seems they have a ways to go yet. It would not boot on my desktop. On my laptop, it did boot and display a nice-looking gui, but without a mouse cursor. The gui did not respond to any key but the super key (it popped up a help menu), nor to the touchpad. These were pretty vanilla all-Intel machines, too. I’ll try again at 1.0, I guess. I certainly like the idea.

Yeah, Redox OS has been cooking for many years now, I believe I first read about it around ~2016 (one of my first searches when I learned about Rust, was Rust based OS  )

I believe its mainly the work of one of System76’s devs that also works on COSMIC.
I can’t appreciate the work those people are doing enough…!!

I really hope it will become the next big thing, but realistically we’re decades away from that.

In the meantime, there’s also other small projects that come and go from time to time, that try to construct Rust-heavy linux distros, like Serpent OS which I’ve come across recently.

I wish that one day, both C devs and Rust devs would work side by side on the Linux kernel. Either way, this is very interesting and I can’t wait to see where they would go as time progresses.
