unfortunately something that was funny yesterday is political today. Go figure the new batch doesn’t have a since of humor.

It’s not really a joke for a regular day, but this interaction with a Windows client of mine made me laugh to myself. [He or she] is a Windows 10 user without any experience with Windows 11. [He or she] was trying to update Zoom on [his or her] empoyee’s Windows 11 computer. The employee had presented to my client a computer that would not update either Windows or Zoom.
Client Too jard to explain in text. I will email.
Client: hard
Me: I prefer jard.
Me: Perhaps [your employee] hadn’t shut down [his or her] computer properly.
Client: Maybe not, but once I selected restart anyway, shouldn’t it have done so? I had a hard time even finding a restart button.
Me: Just like in Windows 10, press Win+X; select Shut Down or Sign Out; and then select Restart.
Me: Then log in as administrator. Update Windows. Reboot and log in again. Update Zoom.
Client: I never use Windows+X. I didn’t even remember it. What happened to having restart and shut down icons easily available?
Me: Microsoft eliminated some shutdown options, reasoning that fewer options make life easier for typical users.

Anyway, after my client rebooted and updated Windows, the Zoom update proceeded without problem. Of course, a simple Zoom (or Windows) update should not have been so difficult.
And yes, my client should be using Linux, and I have recommend Linux, but [she or he] is working for a government agency, where change is not easily implemented.
I don’t have 11 (or want) but I’m surprised he had could not right-click update as admin for the zoom app. In other words why log in as admin when you can do it on the spot? (or did 11 eliminate that?)
Same with update.
Was the employee just excluded based on policy setting? If the answer is yes, then how did boss (yr client) not know that or what to do about it?
if that person has trouble with these simple digital adaptations (win-X) I feel sorry for all of us.
Something tells me you’ve had far sadder calls this though.
