Doesn’t appear to be an update for this just yet.
This has been fixed in 7zip in June already and is related to how 7zip handles zstd compressed archives.
As far as I know no Linux distrubtion uses 7zip to handle zstd archives, at least by default. The AUR package of the Linux version is up to date too.
So this is really only relevant for Windows, has been fixed already since June and I highly doubt a lot of people on Windows actually use zstd to compress files (or even know what zstd is).
It showed up in my feed and I know we have people who dual boot.
This just showed up on my youtube subscription
They say to update to 24.07 or later, I noticed that I’m on 24.08-1
Yeah, 7zip suffers from the usual “important but overlooked open source project” problem:
- It is the best and most widely used open source archive manager on Windows
- It is pretty much maintained by 1 - 2 people since forever
- It supports way too many formats (mainstream and exotic) for them to get properly tested with a large and old code base
Yeah this seems to be more of a Windows issue but since we have several that dual boot I posted.
