4K videos are not working well

I tried to play some 4K movies but no application was able to play it smoothly. I tried it with vlc and mpv, both are not working well. Is it a hardware problem or software problem?

I doubt a GPU that old has hardware support for decoding hevc/h265 so it is probably being software decoded on the CPU. Software decoding 4k video is a tall order for that CPU.

You could try h264 instead, but as mentioned above, that processor is probably too old.
