4k resolution on VirtualBox

Hi, I’m having trouble with setting up a VM with Windows 10 for work. I have two screens and I’ve configured the VM for two screens doing the following (for reference if someone else encounters the same problems I had):

  • Start VM
  • Devices > Insert guest components CD image
  • Inside the VM, going to D: drive and installing the guest components
  • Restart VM
  • Machine > Config > Screen > Number of screens = 2

With that I’ve achieved having two screens for my VM but the resolution on both are awful; I’ve tried to manually change the resolution on display settings on Windows 10 but I am stuck on 1920x1200 on both screens, besides that I’ve tried the following:

  • View > Virtual Screen 1/2 > Change resolution: Max is 1920x1200 on both screens
  • VM Config > Screen > Video Memory = 256Mb: I’ve read that this is not really necessary but changing the resolution via display settings on Windows with 128Mb of video memory crashed multiple times the VM, having more seemed to have helped…
  • Running on the host terminal the following: VBoxManage setextradata "Work" CustomVideoMode1 3840x2160x32 to no avail.

The VM doesn’t crash anymore but if I play with [Host+F] keys to enter on fullscreen mode the VM becomes unresponsive and it’s very difficult to shut it down without brute force, besides the second screen seems to disappear.

Here are the details for the VM:
