Perhaps. Don’t know. Maybe. Hope so…
Given that users soon won’t be able to install software they choose to install on their own Android hardware unless the developer has first ceded their personal data to Google, an alternative that is free (as in liberty), is due.
If I can’t install what I choose on my hardware, is it really my hardware ![]()
I would love one, but I need a guarantee that it would run bank apps. Physical banks are disappearing in the UK at an alarming rate, so I have to manage them with an Android app ![]()
I read in their forum about banking apps. They said something like, a few works, a few don’t. Most of them who works work with microg
microg?
I’m sorry. I was completely wrong. That was the Volla Phone.
EDIT: I was interested in the Volla Phone and wanted to know how my banking works.
Not a problem, I have a thumping headache - thought I missed something
Should take refuge in a darkened room ![]()
Oh sorry, that was my fault then ![]()
Isn’t it a bit strange that a site like It’s FOSS covers news about that new phone from the company which develops Sailfish ? At least regarding the aspect that Sailfish OS is essentially proprietary and only partly open source?
They haven’t had much success with the first crowd-sourced phone. But they did had at least an larger than life personality as an CEO who did his marketing campaign as if he is the next Steve Jobs.
Anyway, somehow they managed to be still around, despite some shenanigans in terms of raising capital from Russian investors. Only to get rid of them (by filing for bankruptcy) at a later point in time.
Other projects, such as their A.I. Mind 2 Personal AI Assistant, which is totally overpriced from my point of view ( An Rockchip RK3588 SBC with 16GB of RAM and an 128GB eMMC… for 629,- € … and a monthly subscription to their Venho.AI service ? Seriously ?) are essentially a no go to me. Even if their former CEO Marc Dillion left the company already back in 2015.
Neither am I going to discuss semantics of open vs. closed source nor am I interested in that discussion. However, you could turn it around and say that SailfishOS is essentially open source with a proprietary UI. So partially proprietary? ![]()
no headphone jack, me no buy
edit: is it possible to charge a phone and use the usb-c port for wired headphones at the same time?
