Youtube's crackdown on some tech channels

Every last bit of it because of AI not knowing what it’s doing. Evrn UPS and FedEx are suffering because of stupidly adopting AI.

that’s sad

Hear, hear! I love YouTube, but I hate Google. The worst thing to happen to YouTube was Google acquiring the platform.

There’s a reason for calling it ā€œartificialā€.

Good luck to the guy/gal whose channel was terminated. You can’t actually interact with a human at Google and usually never get a response.

I have mostly been interested in some educational tech channels on YT.

If they will be taken down or if the creators are ā€œterrorizedā€ now to pubish content which may be flagged as dangerous, this would practically turn YT to a useless platform for me.

Sure, I watch some other stuff too on YT but tech has been the bulk of my consumption.

Reminds me of The Linux Experiment :

Not good ones, IMO. I’ve looked at Rumble (you have to provide a phone number to have an account), FreeTube (lacks content), Bitchute (you’ll understand why Google bans videos if you watch some of the drivel on this platform), Odysee (you have to create content to be able to post comments on, or like/dislike, videos).

I was thinking about PeerTube (decentralized, federated using ActivityPub) though I cannot say I have any in-depth knowledge or experience of it.

600,000 videos seems like a lot. I’ll check it out.

Another reason other platforms usually aren’t good options…most YouTube content creators don’t add their content on other platforms.

people kept their clothes on for more than three minutes and talked about stuff in one of the videos at the PornHub site.

Couldn’t find any Endeavour reviews or Stones songs though. May have to pass on PornHub for Linux content.

For dirty Linux videos you have to dive deep into the Dark Web.

Works very well, we need more channels there (there is The Linux Experiment, and Veronica Explains, for instance). Once we get used to the instances architecture and that we can browse them all here: https://joinpeertube.org/browse-content … the fact that there is sometimes only 1080p is a bit annoying on mobile data though, but we will get there.

@cactux what would be constitute a video to be labeled as a dirty Linux Video?

Most of the YT (i.e. YouTube) creators upload their videos on YT, because of the monetization available to them. They cannot get the same level of monetization or reach/audience from any other platforms. They will otherwise have to search for advertisements and then put them in. Not something that is easily done. After all food has to be put on the table, bills paid and lights have to be kept on. That is why acquisition of YT by google was good. YT got access to Google’s massive war chest to keep on going. It is only after the COVID-19 pandemic has the services of YT become bad. Too many ads, sometimes 5 ads in a 20 minute video in addition to 2 ads at the start and one ad at the end. Too many take-downs for spurious reasons.

It will be good have a YT alternative. But how will it be sustained? YT servers as a caution why Netflix ought not be become the default streaming house for all movies/series/anime/documentaries. Otherwise we will see something worse.

I wouldn’t mind deprofessionalizing video content sharing. Internet was suppose to grow more horizontal, peer-to-peer, not hierarchical as we observe now.

You can think the American government, most European governments, and a small handful of others for the con of all cons Y2K. No damn bug that needed to be fixed. It was all about centralizing the Internet to have it under government control.
