X11 Fails to Start when running from Live USB

Loaded latest .iso release on ventoy usb. The live environment starts out to load fine but when it starts to load the x11 to build the window, the service fails and goes into a loop and can only force a reboot. I know Arch will run without issue on this system. This is current config:

Any ideas or thoughts would be helpful…

When the live-iso Grub menu comes up, you have a variety of boot-options to tinker with, regarding your graphics. You might try them out, or even customize them before you boot up the live iso.

Perhaps the one with nomodeset option should give you a start into X11, at least.

ivanhoe - thank you for the response. I have tried all the options. I thought it could have been a result of my dual GPU configuration, but the problem occurs regardless of the option selected. I also know the ISO is good, because I used it to install on a KVM guest.

So your Manjaro system boots with fbdev, vesa …

Sorry, I cannot reproduce this here, nor help you any further.

I’m sure there is going to be help from others running newer machines than I do coming up, shortly! - Don’t worry, you’re at the right place!

Good luck, and welcome to the forum, @secdoc !

:enos:

Look here for driver installation first, then…

…you might boot the live iso into a shell… (Alt+F1, or Alt+F2, or Shift+Alt+F…) after NetworkManager is loaded…

…and look into your drivers from the shell…

Just another 2 cents from me.

Again, I think others here might have better, quicker solutions at hand!

ivanho - no problem and thank you…I know I may be an outlier…so thank you for the initial assist…

Did you try booting on the nvidia option?

Ya i saw that but “I tried all options” doesn’t always mean those options. OP could have meant something i wouldn’t even think of possibly. Just making sure they meant that?

ricklinux - No worries…it is odd…because it starts out like any other live CD…but the moment it hits the x.org/X11 server component it fails…and goes into a loop…so very odd

Have you tried nomodeset? What about blacklisting nouveau?

modprobe.blacklist=nouveau

ricklinux - That is one of the options when starting and I did…I figured I would upload the screenshots of what happens…

It looks like a problem with the live ISO you created on ventoy. If i were you i would not use ventoy. Can you create a live usb with dd or use etcher on Windows or some other method.

ricklinux - I will try…

Just wanted to give update…I created a USB installer using Rufus and had no issues…so using the ventoy linux app had some issues…thanks for the assist.
