Would you help me to find the right laptop?

I’m superhappy with the Campus Edition of a HP Elitebook 845 G10. Campus Edition is cheaper without OS here in Germany but if you pay attention to getting the 7480U (not HS) and the 1920x1200 400 nits panel then you get a super compatible Linux machine.

EOS runs with no additional tweaks or hacks. Just install and 100% working.

A minimini bug is that CPU gets stuck at lowest frequency after a random suspen/resume cycles, but theres alread a patch in kernel pipeline.

That seems a great laptop!
Thank you, I’ll save it to my list.

I wrote to the first store you linked. They suggested me a n140hcg-eq1 instead of a GQ2.
Do you know how it is?

Reading about it on panelook it seems even better than the GQ2, but it’d be great to hear your opinion about it before I take it. Thanks.

That’s odd that they’d recommend that. It is a 100% sRGB panel, it will fit, but it’s only 300-nit brightness. It’s actually an upgrade on contrast though, it’s very high for IPS panels, 1500:1.

So it has better colors, but less brightness, right?
I think I’ll go with that, if there are no particular reason not to.

I have a 300nits display on my Omen and I often turn down the brightness. I use it mostly at home in good light conditions, so i’m not sure I’d have so much benefit with the 400n display.

I have found the N140HCG-GN1 though, which seems to have the best of both displays.

GN1 not compatible. Different design, that’s essentially the new version for the smaller bottom border laptops (that’s what’s in my L14 G3).

EQ1 has the same color accuracy as the GQ2 (100% sRGB ~ 72% NTSC), higher contrast (1500:1 > 800:1), but lower brightness (300-nit < 400-nit). It would still be a nice display, but I definitely would prefer the GQ2 (or one of the AUO or BOE 400-nit displays) due to their also being low-power. I don’t BELIEVE the EQ1 is a low-power.

Fine, I’ll go with GQ2 then. Thank you.

Sorry, one last thing: I have to choose between with tapes and with brackets. Which should I choose?

Your model is just held in with tape.

Hey there! After all the help you gave me, I thought it would have been nice to post an update. So here I am.

Right before purchasing the panel you suggested I found an EliteBook 845 G9 in my area for 600€. So I went for it, and forgot the E14.
It has arrived today! It looks like an amazing laptop, with AMD RYZEN 7 PRO 6850U, 16gb RAM upgradable, 512gb ssd and 100%sRGB display. Just awesome.

The only gripe with it is, for now, that although the monitor has great colors and brightness, the viewing angle is weird and awfully narrow. Like I have to adjust the angle only by changing position on my chair, lol

Overall it seems great, though. So thank you very much again for your precious advice!

Good choice, I’m a big fan of the 845, had a G9 and still currently have a G10.

Just curious, did you have the same problem with the display viewing angle? I think I can live with it, but I just want to make sure it’s not an issue with my unit.

No, I didn’t, sounds like you got one with the “privacy panel”.

Yes, I did indeed. What a feature.

I hate that panel. Rated REALLY high, but doesn’t look anywhere near as good as it’s rated, even when the privacy feature is turned off.

Yeah, do you think it’s worth to return it and get an 845 G8 instead? Or would you just keep this one?

If you don’t mind the panel too much, I’d just keep it, the performance of the G9 is incredible with that 680M iGP.

Yeah it’s really great. Anyway I could just swap the panel, like I would have done with the E14?

It is possible, but I don’t know which cable the privacy screens use offhand, so not sure if you’d need to get the WQXGA (2560x1600) panel to swap it or the FHD without having to get a cable as well.

I don’t think HP has that you can read the model, but who’s hte manufacturer of the panel in there?

How can I check? It still has Windows on it.
I’m reading on reddit that’s such a PITA to change it tho, so I still don’t know, maybe I’ll just live with it.
