[WIP] How To Tell If You Can Switch To Linux (Software Alternatives)

Gonna be honest: I have no patience for Apple users in general. Many of them are some of the most stubborn people on this planet, IMHO.

For many of them, I think it’s because they are already not following the bad norms of using a Windows computer and an Android mobile device. While for others it’s simply because Apple products are a status symbol they aren’t willing to part with.

But the fact is: whether it’s Windows/Apple/Android/etc., everyone needs to make a statement to these companies and their governments that both physical and online privacy should not be violated, whether it’s for profit or “protection”.

However, as the opening says, I’m open to suggestions — so I am willing to add notes and suggestions from those who give me some feedback.

Remove OpenOffice, it has passed the expiration date…

+1 for AlternativeTo, I am always referring to it when speaking to my surrounding (in the “teach how to fish rather than give a fish” mindset). It could deserve a subsection or a dedicated sentence somewhere, because people doing the switch and starting to open to free software can save hours of reading and comparing by using it.

Agreed.

Yeah, I forgot that they really did discontinue it completely. I will replace it with Collabora.

These ones are easier to convince then. I think I was rather on this side of your 2 rough categories. I was so happy to use a macbook 12 years ago. With time, I have then started to notice the sneaky aspects of Apple’s golden cage, first when trying to dualboot with linux (broadcom wifi and nvidia hell), then new updates would introduce more and more heaviness, eventually the OS would not update anymore because of “too old hardware” (still running great today with EndeavourOS and a few patches…). Well… I was delighted to feel again like a singular and pampered user in the Linux community, and not like a dumb cash cow.

I get what you mean. I’d say you’re an exception, though.

Like I said, open to any info you can give, so I can add it for them.

Okay. So I’ve posted the updates made so far. It’s longer! :zipper_mouth_face:

I haven’t added all the suggestions I’ve gotten yet, because I keep forgetting, but I will.

What I will focus on next is removing anything that may be redundant or possibly confusing, or even scary, like bink said. These things and just trying to make it more concise.

Maybe reducing it to less than 5,000 words is achievable?
