Windows 11 - Leaked

Knowing is half the battle? :man_shrugging: Not even Microsoft seems to know…I read today that there’s updates expected for the Win 11 compatibility tool

My CPU is not supported… i7 7700, not in the list
Asus H170 pro gaming
UEFI set to other OS in Bios, and not sure about the TMP

Did you look for support for Intel PTT in the Bios?

Edit: Look for PTT Configuration

Afaik, Intel chips older than 8th gen aren’t supported.

I might be wrong though

For this sh*t to work you also need secure boot enabled in UEFI

Well i was able to enable the TPM on my Intel and it passes the test without enabling secure boot. So i won’t know until i really try and install it. On this Intel board it’s called PTT.

Edit: I also checked it another way because it matters if it’s windows 10 Home or Pro how to check it.

It’s nice to see people on linux forum are so eager to run new windows OS and they are troubleshooting what microsoft didn’t fix in the first place.

I was just thinking, this forum is already more useful to me learning Winblows (for work, man’s gotta eat) than M$'s own documentation…

I can’t understand all this excitement. Why are you so concerned about this legacy? We use something that we can also stand behind ideally. Shouldn’t we be happy about that every day? Windows something will never be able to (want to) free itself from the problems that we once left it for. It is a totalitarian system, imposed by a totalitarian corporation on users who do not know how to distinguish. A new wallpaper, no more tiles? Ridiculous … There is no need for any further words … have a nice time!

Some people just like technology and aren’t that invested in ideology and the struggle of the masses fighting the totalitarian overlords. Windows user talking Linux, Linux user talking Windows - nothing wrong with that.

I’m not pro totalitarian overlords but playing games does mean I currently need a windows image occasionally.

The thing that’s leaping out at me is that according to what MS have said about TPM they’re effectively EOL’ing Ryzen 1st gen and 7th gen Intel in 2025.

That seems pretty arrogant.

Just popped up in a MeWe group I’m in:
Microsoft confirms Windows 11 will only support 8th Gen and up CPUs

Nah, they’re so not trying to push people into buying new hardware, honest!

Yes, just tried… it was set to discrete mode, changed to firmware mode, but no joy…

I looked at your motherboard manual as best i can. Unfortunately sometimes it doesn’t show the sub headings under some headings. It’s also hard to read on the website when zooming it’s blurred.Your board does have the TPM header so one would think the setting is there somewhere in the UEFI settings under a sub menu.
Under secure boot you need to set OS Type Windows UEFI mode. CSM should be disabled and Boot Device Control [UEFI and Legacy OPROM] can be set to UEFI only or Legacy and UEFI OPROM or Legacy OPROM only. I don’t think secure boot has to be necessarily turned on as mine isn’t. It may be just turning on the correct settings so that the TMP or PTT setting is shown in one of the sub menus. Obviously if you set everything UEFI only then you can’t boot legacy unless you change a setting to do it. Such as turning CSM to enabled. I myself prefer UEFI and MBR is slowly disappearing unless you have older hardware.

On my board which is also Intel the setting is called PTT instead of TMP and after enabling it all the device manager shows the TMP security device and it passes the Windows 11 test. So i don’t know you may want to look at it a little more just to be sure you aren’t missing it.

I’ll try the suggested settings, thanks ricklinux, unfortunately I’ll be joining a conference now… but as soon as I’m free, I’ll try and post here what happened, hope it works

It also may be because of your processor doesn’t support TPM. I see the i7 8700 is an 8th Gen Coffee Lake but yours might be 7th Gen Processor?

Just tried, disabled CSM, UEFI to Windows (grub no longer works, it shows an error and boots directly to Windows).

But still no joy, I guess you are right, CPU as being a 7th gen is the problem…

Well i see the TPM there? So it’s obviously enabled. I hope this hasn’t ruined getting back your grub. :crying_cat_face:
I didn’t have any issue with mine changing the settings i needed to get TPM working.
