You see, every time I connect my USB-drive to my laptop, WiFi disables itself! This little annoyance has been with me some time and actually appeared first time when installing EOS, thought it was just a hiccup then, but it has persisted.
Although not very important but quite a annoying thing to happen.
It’s damn interesting indeed. Never have met this kind of issue before and I have dabbled with Debian, OpenSUSE, Fedora even Slackware and never ever have had this kind of issue rising.
Even early Ubuntus did not have this issue and boy, they did have issues.
Realtek… Brr… Still gives me shivers when thinking it and Ubuntu…
Edit: Only shows additionally the other usb drive when plugged in? Is it the bottom one shown? Or the top one? I assume it’s the bottom disc usb 3.0 sda?
Edit: I assume this is where you lose the WiFi?
440.614897] wlan0: Connection to AP xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx lost
Okay … sorry i thought it was two discs looking at it. My bad! This is an external usb hard drive in an external case correct? I see it’s usb 3.0. Do you have it plugged into a usb 3.0 port? Have you tried other ports? I’m not sure why it would kick out the WiFi. Strange.
Edit: Is the WiFi onboard? Laptop or desktop? Or is the WiFi an external usb dongle?
Ya that’s what confused me at first. These external hard drives in a case have an adapter so they show uas and xhci. I’m not sure other than trying another usb port if you have one available.
Some USB 3 devices can generate radio frequency interference that can cause Wi-Fi and Bluetooth devices operating in the 2.4GHz band to have issues communicating with your computer.
USB 3.0 has a 5Gbps signaling rate. The USB 3.0 specification requires USB 3.0 data to be scrambled and it requires spread-spectrum. The noise from USB 3.0 data spectrum can be high (in the 2.4-2.5GHz range). This noise can radiate from the USB 3.0 connector on a device (such as a PC or Router), the USB 3.0 connector on the peripheral device or the USB 3.0 [port]. If the antenna of a wireless device operating in this band is placed close to any of the USB 3.0 radiation channels, it can pick up the broadband noise. The broadband noise emitted from a USB 3.0 device can affect the SNR (signal-to-noise ratio) and limit the sensitivity of any wireless receiver whose antenna is physically located close to the USB 3.0 device. This may result in a drop in throughput on the wireless link.
Edit: This is all I can find in relation to the problem your experiencing.
I think that we are in a sense going back to those times. Nowadays there are so damn many wireless connections buzzing around that it is more than a miracle that these kind of issues have not surfaced sooner.
