LocalSend is a great little app for quickly sharing files between two devices on the same network. The killer feature that got me hooked in the first place is that it allows you to share text as well, so you can share links, passwords, stuff like that without having to email or use a messenger or something.
Anyway, on a new install of Endeavour OS, I was looking to install it and i noticed there are two version in the AUR. I’m confused as to which version I should install.
There’s localsend-bin, which is more popular, and was updated about 20 days ago. But its at least two versions out of date.
There’s localsend, but I’m kind of worried of the time it’ll take to install everytime as its not a binary. That is the more up-to-date version.
Updates to it seem somewhat infrequent, so the source version localsend may not be too much trouble to maintain.
You could try that version and see how long it takes to build. On my moderately beefy workstation, it took just over 4 minutes.
Otherwise, go for the pre-compiled localsend-bin and hope the maintainer updates it, or handle updating it yourself. Most of the time, all that’s required is a version bump in the PKGBUILD.
Whether you flatpak or not, well that’s a personal choice. I wouldn’t, but that’s because I’m comfortable maintaining a PKGBUILD file.
I use the precompiled binary in the Chaotic AUR. It takes the source/git localsend package and compiles it into a binary for you. It may be a day or two behind upstream but not as bad aslocalsend-bin.
