The /dev/urandom graphics idea sounds pretty fun (unless you are epileptic).
Fantastic fit for r/badUIbattles
I honestly do find just the idea of Linus’ retirement pretty sad though.
I find it extremely valuable to have a (reformed) a*hole keeping the BS strictly in check.
When reading mailing lists from time to time, you very often really can see his reasoning behind being so passionately aggressive…
My biggest hope is that his work is (still) a labor of love, and that he might as well keep going for as long as his health allows it.
I’m of similar mind there, also being a long time user of FreeBSD for servers. Although, FreeBSD as desktop and daily driver doesn’t enjoy the same degree of application support, sadly. If it did, I probably would have never gone on my EndeavourOS journey.
Didn’t he already stop managing the kernel for some time in the past? I personally doubt anything of significance would change. Especially with all the people he worked with over the last years being his successor, that already play a big part in how the kernel is developed.
When Torvalds steps down, I have zero confidence in the new generation who will take over. I’ve seen enough of internal messages to sour me.
I’m familiar with BSD (and I’m currently running freeBSD on my secondary tower), so I will most likely be switching to BSD when that dark day comes.
The day a certain toilet-guy gets even the slightest mention in the kernel is the day I stop
using Linux.
