Rune Morling (ermo), the co-founder of the AerynOS project, responds to the question, “Where is Ikey?” with the following:
“Ikey has not been in contact with the project for six months. In his absence, I have taken up the Project Steward role, including planning and directing the various development workstreams, while @NomadicCore is handling external communications.”
A look at his GitHub profile paints a concerning picture. After an impressive streak of more than 2,400 code contributions for the last year, his activity suddenly stopped around mid-April—matching what the rest of the AerynOS team said about his absence from the project over the past six months.
In Ikey’s absence, Rune Morling has taken up the role of Project Steward, overseeing planning and coordination across the project’s various development streams, so AerynOS development has not slowed down.
No communication for 6 months is certainly concerning, but it also follows the pattern of hyperfocus/burnout cycle with health and financial issues contributing to the stressors for burnout.
It’s what he does, based on previous patterns. 200% drive and energy for a new product, burns the candle at both ends, and then crashes. It can’t be healthy surely, more so for having a young family. I hope he finds better paths.
I took another look at AerynOS today, reminded by this post. I have to admit, I like some of it’s ideas and it does seem to be quite speedy.
I just wish follow-through was on Ikey’s dashboard.
Refresh me, is Solus expected to follow toward Aeryn? I really don’t remember….
I followed the progress of Solus and saw the pattern there too. I was frustrated new software manager became vaporware, but now have more awareness and compassion for contributing factors.
@dbarronoss Yes, *Solus is still expecting to switch their base to Aeryn.
Pretty much the same here. Actually, it seems that whatever he’s involved with gets better once he’s gone. Solus is a really nice distro. Maybe AerynOS will have the same result.
