Earlier this year, I put together a list of what I thought the heaviest guitar riff of each year was, 1964 - 1983. Not necessarily the best riff, but the heaviest one (subjectively) released that year. I stopped before thrash metal really proliferated, because I felt choosing between all the metal/punk sub-genres for “heaviness” would become too difficult. I should post a playlist of all of them but for now here’s 1971, and strong contender for my favorite riffage of all time.
