What is your ISP speed?

On Fibre currently the fastest speed i can get here is 3.2 GB I’m waiting for the day it can be 10 GB but of course only if the prices were low enough.

Having run on barely 30mbps for years living out in the sticks, this is a dream come true to finally have fibre.

Vodafone Cable (Germany) 1000 Mbit/s :down_arrow:, 50 Mbit/s :up_arrow:

(10Gbit network card, 10Gbit Switch, 2,5Gbit to Router (Fritz!Box 6690 Cable))

This is mine, this is through a VPN so the latency will get a small hit from that but the maximum Mbps for my area is around 76Mbps so this is pretty much close to max download, Upload is maybe off by 8-10Mbps. And this is the max speed for my area too by the way as there are no fibre connections.

@swh you are not alone.

@_Six I’m on 50mbit DSL…They got fibre 150 meters further towards the city center.

Here is the question though…

For those in the community with gigabyte internet, do you need it?

300/300 is the entry tier from my current provider, but 500, 1 and 2 Gig are also offered but in USD that’s 25-60 more per month, every month

That adds up over time and I’d rather spend that money on other things, like retirement

My parents are in a similar situation. Fiber goes by the house but service is unavailable but up the street it is, so they have DSL. Cable is available but they are stuck in their ways and don’t want to change or spend the money

I’m fine with DSL. I can stream everything in full HD with public broadcasters here in Germany.

Of course, fiber has its advantages. I think that for a large household, the corresponding bandwidth is ideal. For me as a single, it’s okay.

Eh. Then again, what do you expect for only US $15 / month unlimited data.

FWIW, not being a gamer this speed has never felt like a constraint. :man_shrugging:

Not to show off, but here’s mine. I actually have a higher upload speed than download

Hello @CarlLaFong!

We use the connection as a family, but I am the main user. When downloading games with Steam or GOG, 1 Gbit/s is great, but otherwise it only makes sense for really large downloads. We currently pay around €45 per month for it.

I live in a rural area with 20-Mbps DSL. The DSLAM that serves my narrow valley in the mountains frequently fails, giving me at those times dial-up speeds at best, if not a days-long outage. Today is a good day, and I am enjoying faster speeds than I pay for..

When downloading large files, it would be nice to have surely, something to consider if it becomes an issue for me, but on the other hand, I need to learn to be more patient

For me upgrading to 1 gig service would be more like EUR 60 per month, but I’m currently paying less than half that after discounts

With Wifi signal going through one ceiling and one wall.

I currently have a DSL 250 line which results in roughly 23 MB/s transfer speed when I download ISO images. Video streaming with netflix or AppleTV is easily possible with multiple devices in highest quality. That speed is good enough for me. I am not experiencing bottlenecks.

But I have optical fibre with 1 GB/s in the pipeline coming to our place within the next couple of month. And I love the idea
