I would say this is my favorite of top 3 Alice songs. Always has been. Nobody has ever heard of this except me I thought. This was before Hunter/Wagner and it starred Wagner’s janky brilliant guitar and some drunken horn player (sax or trumpet?) and maybe his original bassist(?) and just a mean little jazz number. In fact the words/vocals were last place he coulda hummed it and it would be still be awesome.
This was less making top 40 stuff and more about having fun and setting the band free. Something he did not do enough of. Don’t get me wrong, the Jets/West Side rewrite was brilliant.
You sir, have impeccable taste.
now that’s a creative take
Funny coincidence.
I like the samurai version equally though.
I just finished the game for the first time (and I did all the endings except the truly worst ending, I just couldn’t press that button!), first i played was 1.0, the disaster release, I quit before I got all that far cuz i was sick of it being a looter shooter, played like borderlands, not a real rpg. 2.31 was great though, all the worst issues were fixed, it wasn’t all the way to being the game we were originally promised but it was more than close enough to be more or less a masterpiece.
I’m leaning more towards masterpiece. I didn’t start playing it until way after the big bug fixes, in fact not until after Phantom Liberty came out so I was kind of spoiled. So many playthroughs I’m almost embarrassed to say how many, but definitely double figures
LOL
You sound like more of an RPG purist, I get that. I could see how the loot/shoot thing would grate a bit.
Amazing game though eh choom. ![]()
David Fiuczynski [composer] and group, “Lullaby Nightmare” (2019)
Microtonal jazz with…
Philipp Gerschlauer / alto sax
David Fiuczynski / microtonal guitar
Jack DeJohnette / drums
Drew Gress / bass
Utar Artun / microtonal keyboards
I first learned on this forum, from @swh, that Jack DeJohnette had died. I was especially saddened by this news, having seen Jack DeJohnette in concert with Bill Frisell a number of years ago.
I also possess a couple of wonderful David Fiuczynski CDs. Here’s a track from one of those albums:
Here David Fiuczynski explains and demonstrates microtonal music:
nah it’s nothing like that, I loved the RPG bits to pieces, they nailed that part.
It was just little things, they had some really good and interesting side quests but most of them, especially the gigs, were just filler.
It still has a lot of bugs and kinks to work out.
There was a lack of interaction with some loved characters like vik and misty, also it was one of those games where they deliberately tried to make the majority of female characters uglier for political reasons (those numbnuts can’t fool me, it’s an easy fix tho, just need a mod to replace most of the female jaws with less androgynous and more feminine jaws and we’d be fine, maybe some skin texture updates on top too). The gangs felt like a backdrop, you didn’t really have to interact with or experience them much, mostly just the scavs, barghest and voodoo boys. There was nothing for the animals and tyger claws and next to nothing for maelstrom either. Also there’s no rep, gangs don’t seem to remember that you’ve given them a black eye 10 times on various gigs. There are like 3 different points in the game and only during quests where a gangoon may recall that you’re someone they want dead. A target for revenge. The cops in ncpd usually sleep but suddenly decide to wake up when you get into a shootout with a gang? and only attack you, not the gangoons? lol.
World just didn’t feel quite as alive as it should have, but it’s still good enough that I can’t truly complain because it’s still one of the best rpgs ever made. But it’s goofy like a bethesda game when it comes down to it, under the hood.
