Great song, timeless lyrics whose meaning only continues to grow not diminish.
You may know this, but Gerry Rafferty & Billy Connolly are great friends from way, way back & were in a band together when young men: The Humblebums.
Connolly used to entertain the crowd with anecdotes, stories, & jokes during setup/tuning, no surprises there.
