We need community help - Common packages to all WMs

text editor leafpad and geany. I do not love vim
filemanager pcmanfm or ranger or nnn

I’m not using any gnome/wayland package, as far as I know

I have to find yet an alternative to xautolock and xset, I was using them before with i3wm
but xautolock is not working good with wayland, and xset is not working at all (also with the package xorg-wayland installed)

I don’t like to poweroff machine/monitor etc, I use xset to disable dpms here. Well they are Xorg packages, need to find some wayland alternative for sway.

I just tried it and it’s a nice piece of software  Certainly more sophisticated than scrot. Seems like it needs to be running in order to work though (when executing it from terminal in any case), so an exec flameshot should be in the config…

Take care with Red Arrow on Flameshot, it could become addictive ! :bow_and_arrow:

Run as background with flameshot gui & the icon will appear at notification area (if you use one)
Also depending on your DE you can set a keybind for it.
I use printscreen to launch it whenever I need, but can also click on notification area to take a shot.

No notification panel for the moment, I still have to configure it (playing with ratpoison window manager). I think I already forgot how icons look
Going to bind flameshot to printscreen as well

Unfortunately ratpoison needs a $mod key before rigth? - don’t use rat for a long time…
in case you need a solution for the keybinding you can use sxhkd to set the key as you want… But that’s another matter

Its Ctrl-t, but only for root keymap (which can be changed). Everything can be launched directly from the top keymap (with no prefixes)

Need to check that out, I am used to to just writing my keybindings in the config…

This wm is great in it’s own crazy way

And you can start another wm or an entire DE on top of it
agree, it’s a great wm :+1:

Iam using sway since a year maybe some longer.
Xwayland is only installed for getting my Apple Magic Trackpad recognizing Swipe-gestures for use in firefox. Have tried epiphany and eolie because they work with swipes directly via libinput without xdotool but these are no real browsers compared to firefox…
I use termite, ranger, neovim.
The usecase of this machine is to run as server for roonlabs and do some browsing the web so I don’t need a lot of applications installed.
And as I don’t hate Microsoft I can do some light office-tasks in the browser.

xwayland is generally needed if you need packages that does need X11 instead of wayland…

I know but as said before my only use is for xdotool. I don’t have any other graphical apps installed beside firefox but without xdotool and xwayland there is no swipe function.

I tried Zen and was disappointed. The automatic partitioning with swap gave me 4 gb swap space even though I had 16gb ram. I’m not a big fan. Archfi works fine for me.

I’m using it like this:
capture-200502-133726

The second one being complete screen capture of the monitor where the mouse pointer currently is and automatic save.
I have no startup script to make it run, also I don’t like having screenshot apps in the system tray (like shutter). It just works.
You just run flameshot config one time to configure the program.
I’ve got mine setup like this:
capture-200502-134047

Weird. Making screenshot sfrom a command line with flameshot full -p /path didn’t work for me until I made it running in the background first…

On the current i3 setup i can’t get it to split windows vertical or horizontal. The keybindings mod + v or mod + h aren’t doing anything. I also find it very hard to remember these key bindings so i have to keep opening the window and looking. I guess if it gets used enough I’ll remember. :slightly_smiling_face:

The next program you open will be slipted, but doesn’t changed already opened.

You can change for something more intuitive for you.

I personally only use mod+w and mod+e, i don’t need to split terminals and screen as before, I’m getting minimalistic perhaps…

IT seems to me that you should be able to run a conky with those keybindings. Maybe put it on a hotkey? Like this sort of thing…
hotkey of course it’ll need some editing

  • and I’ve no idea what this is supposed to be a cheat sheet for!
