Vmware Workstation 25H2

Anyone using vmware-workstation. The updated version 25H2 seems to close randomlly when moving the cursor. If i launch it again it comes back up where it was previously. I have read that 3d is no longer supported as it use vulkan on amd. I have tried adding different configurations in preferences but is still closing on me randomly.

Edit: I’ve never had this issue before using vmware-workstation pro 17

This new version has brought in tons of bugs, glad to see that they fixed the issue with building new kernel modules. Are you running X11 or Wayland?

Wayland… Never ever had an issue before. I don’t like this new version 25H2. Sounds like it belongs on Windows!

Edit: It does work. I can install and run it but certain movements of the cursor and the vm closes. I think it’s still running in the background as i can relaunch it but it’s a pain always randomly closing.

I’ve had this problem since upgrading libxkbcommon. I’m on Arch, not Endeavor.

An official fix won’t be coming soon.

A workaround is to downgrade libxkbcommon:

cd /tmp
wget https://archive.archlinux.org/packages/l/libxkbcommon/libxkbcommon-1.11.0-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst
wget https://archive.archlinux.org/packages/l/libxkbcommon-x11/libxkbcommon-x11-1.11.0-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst

sudo pacman -U libxkbcommon-1.11.0-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst libxkbcommon-x11-1.11.0-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst.

Enjoy!

Thanks,
I’ll try it now.

Edit: Unfortunately that doesn’t work. Won’t let me even log into plasma. Are you using Wayland?

@romeo_72
Sorry I messed up downgrading. It’s working now as far as i can tell. I’ll have to use it a bit to make sure. Where did you find this workaround?

I’ll try to answer your question “Where did you find this workaround?”. You see Rick, I’ve been in Linux since I was young, around 1996 or so. Back then there was no documentation, no cell phones, no social media, so we programmers had to rack our brains to solve bugs. Seeing in lines of code what others can’t see is a gift from God that he gave me. Around the summer of 2011 or so, I discovered Arch Linux and I’ve been on Arch ever since.
Coming back to vmware, downgrading libxkbcommon is a temporary workaround but not a long-term solution. This is because once you downgrade libxkbcommon you will have it in IgnorePkg in pacman.conf. You won’t be able to keep it there for ever. My humble advice is to start looking for another hypervisor. Have a good day Rick!

Thanks. I really like vmware. It’s hard to find anything else that’s to my liking. I used to use v-box but it always seems to have issues. Hopefully this issue gets fixed eventually. Otherwise I will have to switch. Thanks again!
