Vivaldi Mail

Me either…or I probably wouldn’t have ever started using it.
One thing I didn’t do..is try to import from any other browser..just FYI

While I didn’t import directly from another browser, I did export my passwords and bookmarks to my desktop and import the files to Vivaldi.

I deleted the vivaldi folder and it ran, but I’m still getting ads with both the vivaldi ad blocker and ublock origin installed. I’ve updated the adblock settings as suggested and no difference. So no thanks, it’s not worth it. Maybe when Firefox implements V3

Probably a conflict with uBlock Origin Lite and Vivaldi. There is no need for an ad-blocking extension as Vivaldi’s own ad-blocking has all the functionality of the full version of uBlock Origin.

I went to try that and it’s a blank locked up window again. Honestly, I wouldn’t put Vivaldi on someone else’s computer, especially if I had to support it remotely.

I’m honestly not trying to twist your arm to use Vivaldi here. But I have to say I’ve never heard of such a thing with Vivaldi. I have no ad-blocking extension installed on Vivaldi as any such extension would not play nice with Vivaldi’s included ad-blocking and just cause problems.

I’ve been all over Twitch, YouTube and everywhere else on the web with no issues and no ads.

I’m at a loss as to why you’re having issues.

Been a Vivaldi(snapshot) user for years and I use it in combination with the Ghostery extension ,right now, no problems over here too.

Yeah me too. I tried uninstalling it, deleting it from the pacman cache and reinstalling it and had all the same issues. I think I’m going to give up and let it remain one of life’s mysteries.

I was getting the ad problem in all chromium based browsers, but found the solution using chromium at any rate, simply install the noscript extension.

Well I couldn’t leave it alone. NoScript also handles the ads in Vivaldi and the blank screen was due to a corrupted wallet! A fun afternoon.

I use this in any browser I can install it on.

I set its default to untrusted. Then I will adjust depending on the site. I can be more or less permissive but normally I will let it load the least amount of scripts for a site to be functional.

Yeah, me too normally. I just forgot about it!

Not anymore

Did vivaldi ever add an element blocker? For me, this is something I could never live without and a key feature of ublock origin.

Also, I have never found a way to quickly add one-off custom rules.

I’ve not found one in Vivaldi itself yet. The Manifest v3 uBlock Origin Lite includes the Element Zapper.

BACK ON TOPIC…

Using Vivaldi as a browser with its built-in ad-blocking (all the functionality of uBlock Origin), Speed-dial.shortcuts, e-mail, and calendar is great to use… IMHO. Takes a bit of time to set up Speed-dial and if you have multiple email accounts, but well worth the end result.

Topic? We have one of those?
Yeah, I’ve been using Vivaldi (flatpak on most distros) as a criteria for how user friendly the distro is. Some (looking at you Fedora) don’t make readily available the necessary codecs to play all media, and I don’t want to go there with a neophyte user.
And, even more than I thought when I started this thread, I’m liking the UI of Vivaldi a lot more than the UI of Firefox as I tried out different browsers in the different distros I’m trialing. Setting it up for my Windows refugee newbie, I’m learning things that I hadn’t even bothered with on my own usage (thus a side benefit has emerged).
Nice screen caps Unc!

The only Vivaldi I know I like is the composer.

Alright, that and an Italian Restaurant in my neighborhood.

PS. the browser? Never

I used Vivaldi for about a year and they have a lot of settings you can change, I never liked the builtin email client and it lacked functionalities and user experience compared to Thunderbird or my Roundcube setup. I have switched from Vivaldi to Chromium I think probably almost a year ago because I found it’s faster for me to configure and I only used a small portion of Vivaldi’s settings and that was enough for me and less distractions of all the settings I never use or could get lost in

I still use UBO with Vivaldi, mainly for blocking of individual items: fonts, large images (mainly to block autoplay). I didn’t see these options on Vivaldi.
