Vboard: A wayland compatible on-screen-keyboard with modifier keys

I came across Vboard as Virtual Keyboard app for wayland , but vboard didn’t work with sudo and then the project was archived.

The default keyboards in either KDE Plasma or GNOME do not come with modifier keys such as ctrl, alt an so on, and without them, it is very hard to use a touchscreen tablet running GNU/Linux. Vboard provides these keys.

I forked the project, and added many new features including

  1. Tray icon
  2. Word suggestions
  3. Compatibility with Plasma 6.6
  4. Now it registers as a virtual keyboard for Plasma. System settings → keyboard → virtual keyboard. Choose Vboard.
  5. In KDE Plasma now it remembers window position via kWin rules
  6. Retains compatibility with GNOME with XWayland (native Wayland compatibility in KDE).

I plan to add other features, such as other keyboard layouts.

Available on the AUR:

yay -S vboard

Afterwards, restart the computer and run vboard from the menu or add it to startup applications. I have tested it in EndeavourOS with Plasma 6.6.4, Kubuntu 26.04 with Plasma 6.4, Ubuntu with GNOME 50, and Kubuntu 24.04 with Plasma 5.27.

For other distros, check out README.

Very very very nice, thanks.

EDIT: you have cd AUR instead of cd vboard.

Fixed. Thanks for pointing out

Now the package is in AUR
