which simulates Photoshops downscaling (as of 10 years ago…)
I’m interested if @UncleSpellbinder has a better proposal, seeing how much he works with these images. My function is quite old (see above), maybe there’s something better?
When searching for images to use for wallpaper creation, I use “4K” and/or “HD” in the search query. It never really crossed my mind the use “QHD+” in the query. To be honest, I rarely run across 3200x1800 images.
A Google search provided this:
“3840x2160 (4K) has significantly more pixels than 3200x1800 (QHD+), resulting in a sharper and more detailed image, especially on larger screens. However, 3200x1800 is a QHD+ resolution that requires less graphics processing power, making it a better choice for performance in gaming or for less powerful hardware.”
@emk2203, regarding image resizing, I use GIMP. Under the Image tab, there is a Scaling option. I choose that and use the Linear option under Interpolation.
3840x2160 resized using the procedure above to 3200x1800. The resulting images are virtually indistinguishable to my eyes. And the file sizes differ greatly. The original 3840x2160 file size is 9.1MB and the resulting resized 3800x1800 file size is 5.5MB.
Thanks for the detailed reply. Should have thought of that if you work with these images, you probably also scale them in GIMP.
I can compare what you sent with the results of my function to see if my method is still sufficient, so problem solved.
Regarding the resolution: It’s a laptop, released Oct 2013 (so 12 years ago). The reason why I chose this weird QHD+: It’s either that or nothing with this thing, I kid you not.
The laptop has exactly two options:
run it at 3200x1800
run it at 1600x900.
So for me it is: Choose 3200x1800 or don’t run it at all (1600x900 is not really an option).
Thanks also for the Blue Planets pic – makes a nice wallpaper, maybe I can get it to work as a GRUB background as well.
Gorgeous! For my personal setup, I have the same issue as always: The conky I run overlaps with the logo and makes my dashboard hard to read. Would you happen to have the image withouth the logo?
PS: The blue planet one you made is now my GRUB background and fits the EndeavourOS boot to a T.
The bottom picture is great. Would it be possible to place the EndeavourOS lettering on the left side? So that it doesn’t disappear into the clouds.
Just my opinion.
