[Tip] Enable Magic SysRq Key (REISUB)

EOS, whether it’s Galileo release or not, is still Arch-based and Arch has it deactivated by default as mentioned in the first post

Yes

Still same

Thank you friend. I am using a keyboard with an ISO layout, I don’t know if I will have any problems since it is different from the ANSI layout.

Thank you very much friend, everything was clarified for me. I’ll try it tomorrow and see if I did everything correctly.

I think it’s also worth pointing out that if you’re running a Bluetooth keyboard of any type, and the network stack dies, which it will, REISUB just isn’t going to work. I’ve had this bite me a couple of times, so it’s worth considering whether a classic physically-wired USB keyboard is an option.

It worked, friends! :grinning:

I pressed each button every 2 seconds (to make sure there was enough time for each command to execute) and little by little the screen turned off, etc. And when I pressed “B”, the PC rebooted, and it booted correctly, without any errors or anything like that in the EOS boot screen log.

Although, I have used it when my EOS was working properly. I hope it works the same when my pc gets stuck. xP

Thanks again for your guide @Kresimir, very detailed and it helped me a lot! :grinning: :frog:

It worked for me with the left ALT, on my ISO layout keyboard configured in English.

This can really help many people, like me, who sometimes my PC freezes when rendering some textures in Blender.

I wish they would put it on by default later. Although in the post it says that it is disabled by default because it can cause a vulnerability problem in the keyboard, although not serious, but I guess it is good that it is disabled.

Thank you friend. Luckily I’m using a normal keyboard and it worked correctly.

hello everyone
I’ve run the command as per mentioned in the OP, however this doesnt seem to work for some reason
I have my “prtscr” key on home key as an FN key (I hope that makes sense)
so after adding the file I tried (all while holding the Alt, and also tried with both Alt keys) pushing FN+home (to get prtscr), REISUB and also w/o Fn (so that is actually is “home” key) just to be sure. Neither works
Does someone have any ideas?
at the start of the thread I saw a mention of grub, is this method depends on grub? (I dont have grub)

Maybe reset your prtscreen key to the key that is setup to be the default.

You are looking for the SysRq key, not the PrtScr key, as mentioned in the original post it maybe on another key
or if you have changed it like as @ricklinux said set it back to its default

Mine just say’s prtsc on the keyboard. That is the proper key but user say’s they have the home key set as prtsc which may not work. :man_shrugging:

Mines on PrtSc too (my keyboard is anyoing though as it doesn’t actually say this on the keyboard these button is actually marked PS, I actually don’t know what half the keys on that part do as they are all weirdly labeled with a horrible font on them), we will have to wait for the OP to let us know as they said

afterwards

I dont know what do you mean “by default”
It is the default, I never changed it myself

Could it be that for my keyboard sysrq is on some other key?
If it is, how can I know which key it is?

So as you can see just as it is on a lot of laptops where you’d have keys f1 f2, etc and on these keys theres also “fn keys” like changing volume, screen brightness etc, mine has prtscr set to “home” key much in the same manner

By the looks of that it may be on another key, if you can get a better photo we may be able to help you find it (or maybe even do a search of the model of your laptop to see where the Sysrc key is)

Tried searching to no avail
As for better photo, I can take it however if there was a readily written sysrq on some key, I wouldve seen it myself and wouldnt waste anyone’s time

I see what you meant it’s marked Home and Prt Scan.

True that

It should be the right key. You may have to use the Fn key to set it as either home or Prts Scan?

Edit: It looks like it’s a dual function button.

As I said originally I tried with Fn+home(which makes prtscr in ordinary situation) and without and neither worked

Maybe when you run it you have to use alt plus Fn plus Prt Scan then enter REISUB? :man_shrugging:

Thats exactly what I did, again, I said it originally:
Alt (I tried both alts) is holden down all the time, then:
Fn+home(=PrtScr), REISUB
Each with 1 sec time as mentioned in the instruction
