Timeshift, forcing it to do some thinking

So I replaced Cinnamon with Xfce. Easy. Lazy way: Installed Pamac so it was easy to keep track of everything. logged out and then back in again.

Took another snapshot in Timeshift… and right now it is still analyzing differences and claims the snapshot will take 15+ hours. My guess is that it goes through all the old snapshots and realizing Cinnamon is present and Xfce is not in all of them?

What would happen if you moved the old backups to another new folder and then create new backup ? Experiment, I did and it works :sunglasses:

It would work, but the time save would be null. As I suspected it spent 10-15 minutes analyzing stuff and then 3 minutes actually backup.

If I remove and start over it would take the same, since I back up my entire user folder including 300 GB of movies. Just less time analyzing, more time copying from scratch.

Hmm. 10-15 minutes analyzing stuff and then 3 minutes actually backup is much better than the “claims the snapshot will take 15+ hours.” :cowboy_hat_face:

Well at the end, just before starting to copy, it said 61 hours.
