TIL: Gnome needs GDM for screenlock to work

Using Gnome for the first time in a long time. Still getting used to it. Was using Lightdm as my display manager but discovered today I couldn’t lock the screen with SUPER+L nor was a lock option available in the drop down menu on the right. Switching to GDM fixed it.

Yep, not using GDM breaks a few things in GNOME and sometimes allows you to bypass the login on certain DMs when switching TTY

You can do most of the settings for it by logging into the GDM user but the background requires disassembly and reassembly of the GDM theme which isn’t hard just annoying manually.

Last time I used GNOME without GDM, I got a notification that screensaver won’t work because I don’t use SDDM.
