System looking "hideous" after update

I didn’t notice anything on my main notebook after updating today.

i updated everything without the better blur plugin. obv in this days restated pc several times.

and you’re right the taskbar and konsole blur has been improved… however the plasma widgets, and those aren’t even custom, still display differently to everything else!

crappy

here you have an example. i put the memory usage widget as close to my taskbar as i could. left is intended transparency, right is the ugly one…

edit: an user had a bug with better blur (which i don’t use as has no current effect btw) solved it by disabling wobbly windows and restarting. it did NOT work for me thought.

It looks like they’ve fixed it properly in 6.5.2

Changed the blur implementation in Plasma 6.5 to be more like it was in Plasma 6.4: now the “background contrast” effect is off by default and needs to be opted into, and the Breeze Plasma style does opt into it. This should resolve issues with blurs appearing brighter than intended, especially with dark color schemes and Plasma styles, and “fully transparent” Plasma styles. (Marco Martin, Vlad Zahorodnii, and Niccolò Venerandi, link)

Try turning off the background contrast effect.

i waited for 6.5.2 update.

this effect is nowhere in desktop effects! i’m starting to believe it’s a conspiracy against my system in particular!

It’s not there for me either! Unless I’m going completely insane, it was definitely there before!

Run the following: yay -S kwin-effects-forceblur --rebuild, then reboot.

Sorry, I was talking about the background contrast effect which I definitely remember. Maybe it was discontinued with Plasma 6?

Sorry. I’m not sure why I thought you guys were talking about Better Blur.

Good night last night :wine_glass:?

seeing there seems to be no solution at all, my last act before giving this up will be downgrading to plasma 6.4, add package to the ignore update list, and never update plasma again.

if someone wants to warn me of compatibility issues, now it’s your chance.

i am extremely disappointed with plasma. the once goal of customizing as you want has been abandoned in favor of an authoritarian, anti-choice approach of how someone else thinks other’s systems should be.

One last thing to try before you downgrade. After the latest update, is the issue on your widget still occur if you use the default breeze theme?

they look darker and thus prettier, but in no theme it seems to be configurable translucentness and it’s either all or nothing.

previous theme i used was gently. uninstalled btw.

This has been removed in Plasma 6.5 update.
