System looking "hideous" after update

just now, specifically. upgraded my system and plasma must have updated something

my widgets like core usage and memory usage used to be black. mostly opaque. now they are a shade of grey that’s super obtrusive

been navegating options for a fix for hours!!! i want my opaque widgets black like before!!! even if my taskbar is also adaptative/translucent, it used to be black/translucent instead of this horrid grey

theres gotta be a simple way to revert/change a theming issue but don’t know my way around plasma. had to be one errant package then. I don’t see nothing about this online except an Aug incident where icons went gray but nothing after that.

good luck

There is a bug in Plasma 6.5’s new blur which under certain circumstances makes it look ugly (whatever that means). I wonder if you’re suffering from that. If so, it has reportedly been fixed and will be available in the next release.

Have you checked the day / night setting? Go to Colors & Themes, Global Themes then on the top right make sure Switch To Dark Mode At Night is toggled off. Pretty sure more than a few found it toggled on by mistake after the update. It was on my roommates machine.

I would set themes back to default and wait for updates on the widgets or themes you are using.

You’re referring to this issue right?

There has been a kwin update today maybe it helps.

I don’t know, this week in KDE didn’t point to a specific bug.

yes! this is it, kde aggresively modifying coloring with blur!

Just installed better blur I think it helps (enable it in system settings desktop effects).

i just installed it and it works for taskbar and konsole, but sadly my widgets are still… less than appealing. still an improvement tho

Have you disabled the standard blur from settings → desktop effects?

yes, of course. as the instructions say in the github page

Ah you installed it manually. Maybe it’s still using something affected by the bug. It all seems to be working OK here.

Well I have noticed that sometimes a reboot can help, changing the behaviour of widgets, might be worth a try (if not already done ofcourse).

Yeah, when I installed for the first time I need to reboot for it to take effect.

Oh. I don’t think I did, I certainly don’t need to reboot after rebuilding it when Plasma updates.

After update not required to restart. Clean build is enough. I only reboot when I first time installed it. Anyway, as long as it works, it should be fine :slightly_smiling_face:

I agree a reboot is always worth trying if things aren’t working as expected. It sorts out an astonishing number of issues.

I just noticed the difference — the standard blur made it slightly brighter.
Better blur (left), standard blur (right).
