System can't remember password for network connections

Normally on most desktop environments I can connect using the File Manager to my cifs/smb NAS and choose to login as a registered user and remember the password forever.

However on this current EOS Cinnamon install it requires you to login every time regardless of the remember choice being forever.

That did help. The missing pieces for me were:

to install qtkeychain-qt5 and gnome-keyring.
