What’ s the recommended way to install sway? install a base system with no desktop and then run the github script? Is there a way to install it directly from a Live USB or something like that?
thanks!

where can I learn the state of the art of wayland… in other words, if any of my crucial software will or will not work?

Sounds terrible, but I’d say just try it/them.

You could name them.

Thunderbird, Firefox, Dolphin, MPV, Jitsi Meet, Ardour, GIMP, Libreoffice, Inkscape, Nextcloud, Sketchup through Lutris/Wine, GOG and Steam games with proton.

Would that work OK?

  • Screen-sharing may or not with Jitsi but everything else will.

  • Dolphin (if you are talking about the emulator) should work.

  • Wine and Steam will work but run under Xwayland. (I think wine can run native but needs to be configured or something. Steam needs some X11 libraries).

  • Ardour might also run under Xwayland

  • Not sure what GOG is?

  • Everything else will run fine wayland native

cool
Dolphin is KDE’s file manager
GOG is goodoldgames, a game distributor much like steam but DRM free
I’ve read screen sharing is working on jitsi but only full desktop?

Dolphin will work fine then. However you will end up installing a lot of kde.

GOG most probably will work Xwayland. Most stuff does.

And you are probably right about Jitsi.

Anyway! Enjoy!

I installed EOS Sway over my existing EOS i3 partition, chossing my home partition as the new home partition. Seems I kinda messed up because all of my ~/.config/ directory got deleted.
Besides that, there’s a /home/etc/ directory, which I’ve never seen before (it’ s additional to the normal root /etc/ directory)
Also, there is no sway config file anywhere to be found in my home folder. My mod (win) key works to switch workspaces but I can’ t run programs (I understand that is normal until I install wofi or something), but I also can’ t run terminal (mod+enter won’ t do anything’)
I suppose this is because there is no sway config file.
Are these issues because I installed to the same partition and chose the same home folder and shouldn’ t have done that?
Should I just backup the important files of my home folder and then install from scratch and let calamares do all the partitions?
thanks!

Not sure why is happened. But yes. :grinning:. Installing from scratch will most likely fix that problem. Please aware this is not necessarily a help thread and you will likely get quicker replies by opening a new help request.

Absolutely love the Sway edition, great work! :100:
