This isn’t really news to most experienced folk, but I thought it was well stated and readable for a high-level article. It might even be something worth pinning somewhere?
Microsoft didn’t sell me the idea that there could be a better alternative I didn’t have to pay for to use under terms I didn’t agree to. It attempted to control the marketplace and the narrative that it was in our favor to approve what we were being ‘sold’.
AI slop now is being forced upon us and nobody is asking why, or how algorithms will be used to lie, distort and cheat the truth from everyone willing to let it do so. All of this is under a controlling guise of Capitalists with a wet dream to further control markets and the media narrative being propagandized to us.

“Windows users aren’t switching because Linux is better They’re switching because Windows got worse”
Written by a WIN user. MS got worse? It’s always maintained it’s low bar of mediocrity and control for the last 20 years. It was already worse. The writer declared MS and Linux equal at the end, mere ‘tools’ and I guess one can see it that way.
…ah the world of content creation. Do Mac next!
I don’t ask my doctor for his pill advise. . . Doctors have become pill pushers for big pharma. If I have experienced any of the 25 debilitating after effects from using their ‘medication’ then I am suppose to tell the doctor what I’m experiencing? What happen to medical trials before garbage was fast-tracked approved to kill us all? Rather ass backwards I’d say. . .

Well, almost anyone would agree that Windows is definitely worse these days…right ? Yes, admittedly it does have MS centric view, but so does much of the customer base.
And though they didn’t say it (maybe implied), darn Linux on the desktop has gotten a lot of love in the last few years.
“Better” or “worse” can be rather subjective… well unless we’re talking about EndeavourOS, in which case it’s obviously objectively better </bias> ![]()
The meme @thefrog shared just recently, I think sums up the current angst people have with Windows rather nicely though:
I’m still amazed that on a fresh install of Windows, I can spend a bunch of time uninstalling all the junk software bundled with it that I never wanted, only to then run an update and discover it’s all back again.
Even in 2026, after all the anti-trust lawsuits, and the fact that Microsoft’s browser has been one of the longest running memes, its still forced upon users, with messages like, “oh, but it’s good now!”.
From DOS to Windows 11, there’s been a steady path of dumbing down the OS and removing the user’s control. I have no doubt that suits some users, but I expect that anyone who wants to own and control the decisions made on their own computer, would be feeling pretty frustrated.
W7 you had a modicum of control but after that all bets were off. Seeing an update destroy your policy and registry settings was so normal we just took the abuse…
yeah that’s a good thing. when the wave comes our way I have to remember the moz foundation and the linux foundation and all of github is in their slimy tentacles. the tinfoiler in my believes this is part of embrace/extinguish and nothing benevolent…
“Linux isn’t better than Windows” is dumbest thing I have ever heard(today).
Linux is handling Ram better.
Linux is handling everything better!
Linux is free and doesn’t treat you like an idiot.
I could go on but you get it…
Remember ‘better’ is a vague term. Windows is definitely better for running most Windows-only applications. It has more hardware support, for sure. Windows is possibly better at leaking all your information haha.
Precision (or vagueness) is important in communication.
The only reason it’s “better” at running applications is because devs build them for Windows and maby after “port” them to Linux.
Same with games well it was but Valve fixed it with Proton(with help of the amazing work done by the Wine devs).
Yep, I know that :0
