Strange issue with running game

Hello. I’m a little familiar with Ubuntu but a complete newb to Arch based distro. Freshly dumped windows last week for this OS.
I was trying to run Death Stranding through heroic, when I got this error:

So, I tried changing wine version from the default (10.8i) to 8, proton ge custom, proton ge 10.4.
But all of them gave the same error.
Even tried running the executable directly from file manager, but still the same error.
Now here’s the strange part: I added the game’s executable to steam and forced the use of steam play compatibility tool using proton ge. And the game ran without a hitch.
So, can anyone help me figuring out how to run it through heroic or epic games?
I would’ve played it through steam if being online wasn’t a big part of the game. I have a 100h save on epic and missing the game :frowning:

Welcome to the community @Nawang! :waving_hand::partying_face: :enos_flag:

I’m not personally familiar with the Death Stranding, or the Heroic game launcher, but I do use Steam and Lutris.

Some comments online seem to suggest these might address the issue:

  • Limiting framerate to 60fps (set 60Hz refresh then turn on V-Sync).
  • Disable DLSS.

How to try these things (or whether it’s possible) might depend on the desktop environment you’re using, and your GPU.

inxi -MSG --za

It might be possible to limit the framerate using this Proton launch option, if Death Stranding is a DXVK game.

DXVK_FRAME_RATE=60 %command%

I’ve already tried those methods including disabling dof, motion blur, vsync, but no dice. And pretty much all the other solutions I looked up are windows specific.
I need help in finding what kind of sorcery steam play is doing to run the game and how to emulate it in heroic.

You could go into the game options in heroic. Then go to the other tab and click on use steam runtime.

Tried that earlier too. Didn’t help.

Did you install heroic through the AUR or a flatpak

Through aur

you are on proton ge 10.4 and using steam runtime?

Yes.

That is strange. Seems like something is missing considering it works in Steam and not Heroic

Yeah. And all the other games just run fine. This game is the only one giving me such issue.

I know this is a long shot have you tried installing Epic Games through Bottles then running installing and running the game from there

Haven’t used bottles since people say it’s buggy, but I’ve installed epic through lutris, and it’s the same problem there.

I am out of ideas. I really hope someone else can help you figure this one out

Since it seems that something is missing you might want to try the flatpak version of Heroic

I tried that. Problem still persists.
Been scratching my head for 2 days on this. At this point, I just want to play something else.
Maybe I’ll buy the steam version in the future.
Thanks for trying to help, though.
