Steam just crash game after 15 seconds

My favorite kind of problem. One that fixes itself.

WELL… It’s still here, but it dessappears when I open BOTTLES (?!)

  • I open steam
  • Launch a game
  • it crashes
  • Open bottles (steam is still opened)
  • launch a game
  • IT WORKS
I’m in shock! (game is The Finals btw)

I do not know wtf is it! But it’s working soooooo…

I came across a YouTube post with an entire github page dedicated to troubleshooting that specific game on Linux. Perhaps it is that game specifically that is causing problems.

Well… I will try another game - Apex - just 'cause I want. Will write how is it going.

I also remember reading that Apex is on a ban wave for Linux. You should check to see if that has been resolved first.

Found that github page I was talking about.

I don’t play this game myself, so I don’t know if any of this works. It’s just something I came across since so many people seemed to be having issues. https://github.com/polluxau/the-finals-linux-troubleshoot-guide

well… that’s bad, but working soooooo, idk.
I will install apex now, I really do not care about account, 'cause I don’t play it too much.

so, I checked the apex and that’s the laggy bastard) idk why, but when I move it’s lagging so much. And sometimes it just crashes, even if I opened bottles…

Maybe there can be some of parameters for command for enabling all resources or smth?

Make use of protondb if you intend on playing games

You replied to yourself, so I didn’t get a message if that was intended for me. Did you let the download and compile? I believe Apex is one of those games that massively benefits from that. Otherwise I keep that setting off in Steam.

I think by Apex, they mean Apex Legends, not this game.

I’m sorry to say this, but if there’s nothing on the ProtonDB page for Apex Legends regarding improvements and whatnot, it might be better to just keep Windows installed if you want to play it. In general, it seems better to use Windows for competitive games, as many of them moved to kernel level anti-cheat solutions or a large chunk of the community plays on a different service that requires one (like CS2).

Cool, yer I’ve never played it. Looks pretty cool.

To my knowledge, it is filled with cheaters, but I am likely misinformed since I don’t play that game. It doesn’t look interesting to me at all.

Wouldn’t surprise me. I don’t get people cheating in these games, they just spoil the fun on both sides.

Some want to feel powerful. Others want to just mess with other people. Another people find joy in tuning their cheating software.

Yer, i still don’t get them lol. (Probably a good thing)

yeah… I think that’s the one best option for good performance in games in my situation (amd + nvidia :skull: :skull: :skull:)

Thankfully I didn’t delete windows from another ssd. Thank u guys anyway!

You can still game on Linux, but competitive games just don’t work as well usually.

I know. For example I can run The finals (sometimes xd) but I really can’t do it with apex legends 'cause it’s just not working good at all. Well, to be fair, I’m not that much of a gamer to run all windows games on linux, I’m using linux for the development tools first of all. So, If something not working I can just reboot to windows and download whatever I need to.
