Updates overwrite filesystem changes. Well, not all of them but applications would disappear.
Also are you planning to install another Linux distro?
I thought flatpak stay…
Just not sure what is flatpak or not on discover. Don’t know if they locked it so one can only see and install flatpak. It seems so, because when clicking on Firefox it brings me to open discover on KDE with an install button.
I think earlier they shipped with an outdated Firefox version and decided to switch it to flatpak. To be honest may not be the dumbest idea, to avoid dummies breaking the system.
Still, they leave an easy option to open up the system and I like that approach.
Not yet, still trying it out. Next step to unlock existing Linux, it’s Arch after all, according to the link I put above, it’s possible then installed programs etc via pacman become permanent, and no need to use only flatpak. Will need to check first consequences for updates
The game mode is handy when using the controller, the games I currently own are all on steam anyways.
I take a stepped approach, don’t want to bork my steam deck the first two weeks using it don’t feel knowledgeable enough yet.
Flatpaks stay, an application installed with pacman will disappear.
Which Steam Deck did you get?
Edit: Sorry i forgot i asked you this previously. It’s the 512 GB model correct? From what I’m reading it sounds like it’s a pretty good unit.
Yes that one. Steam deck is awesome but you will still likely need and SD card. The only downside I find is the fan runs loud almost always and battery is pretty short, maybe 1-2 hours gaming max. But it’s fun to game on it login Linux desktop when connected to an external monitor.
