I installed steam on a fresh EOS install. I used nvidia-utils as I did before. But now the client crashes on launch. Previous forum post fixes either did nothing or the workarounds no longer point to packages that exist. I tried to look in arch wiki but as far as I see everything related to my prob…

This is just something I would try if a fresh install, delete steam and folders associated to it and then re-install. Before re-installing I would restart (it may not be needed but can’t hurt). TBH steam is the program I get most issues with but the fix is normally easy.

Out of curiosity, how did you install Steam?

This gives you the idea what is missing as not everything gets installed by default. [image] NVIDIA GPU users, attention please! (Dec-2025) Important notifications 8 years old already…so yeah it is old! Yes it is, but you need other packages as well. Not the…

I tried that. It resulted in the same thing sadly.

I have a NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 is this still relevant for that? I thinknit itstalls 590 variants of the packages listed in some of the comments of this thread.

I tried both Flatpak and Rundime thrpugh packages. I lost patience with the native runtime so didnt install that but I suspect thats not the problem either.

I have a 3070ti, 590.xx driver. You need every package for gaming. Just change 580 to 590

Me too 3070, laptop, no issues: [image] Bit of a Frankenstein system, I use the Cachy repos, to the left are all the installed packages that reference “nVidia”.

There’s your problem; Steam is in the official Arch repos. Wipe everything related to Steam from your system, edit your pacman configuration to include multi-lib, then install it with: sudo pacman -S steam
