Okay then try ethernet.
Is it downloading now?
so it downloaded and then I got error message regarding nvidia-utils conflict with nvidia-dkms…
see attached.
what should I do?
Did you press y for yes to remove the nvidia-utils
when it asked “Remove nvidia-utils?” I press y and then got error message
Lets try this
nvidia-installer-dkms -n
command not found. I tried it as root as well
su -
nvidia-installer-dkms -n
Question so it didn’t load a desktop on the nouveau open source driver when it installed?
no it didn’t load the desktop after the initial install… I got the black screen with moving cursor top left.
Do you think I should press n on the above conflict message ? or should we try option 2 on the nvidia link you shared at the top?
Lets try something else first.
yay -S nvidia-340xx nvidia-340xx-utils
Edit: Sorry let me change that …edited!
getting 3 options
which one to install?
Try #1 since it didn’t build on the dkms last time.
getting the following message
nvidia-340xx-utils and nvidia-utils are in conflict. Remove nvidia-utils? [y/n]
So currently the drivers are in the 470.xx version for most cards but you have an older generation of card. Right now the 495.xx version of drivers are in testing and they have dropped support for GT 710 and lower cards to legacy. There are a number of changes and it’s causing issues. Trying to figure it out too.
Did you try again y to remove utils?
understood. Nvidia is a real pain to deal with especially legacy cards.
when I press y, I get an error saying
removing nvidia-utils breaks dependency ‘nvidia-utils=470.63.01’ required by nvidia-dkms
What happens if you just try yay -S nvidia-340xx
get
#1 again
Edit: It’s asking you which package you want installed.
it says package conflicts found:
"installing nvidia-340xx-utils will remove: nvidia-utils, nvidia-utils (nvidia-libgl)
packages to clean build?
None, 1,2,3, 1-3, ^4.
