I’m not sure where to go with this? I’m hesitant to suggest some things as it might mess up everything. Sound stuff is just hard! There is sof-firmware in the Arch repo. Not sure if it would wreck your setup?
You can see it here by searching. It would be your responsibility if you want to try it. I don’t want to ruin your current install.

Just wanted you to know when “automute” is set to
“on”, your speakers will be automatically muted when you plug in your
headphones, and when you unplug your headphones, your speakers will be
automatically unmuted. I thought maybe it was muting the mic but not according to alsa.
@Kaz
The answer is here on this page in the Arch wiki regarding the audio on the x1 carbon. It says’ it works out the box with the sof-firmware.
Audio
Note: The 4-channel audio and microphone work out-of-the-box as of 5.6.7-arch1-1 using SOF Firmware and the latest git version of PulseAudio (version 13.99, soon-to-be released as 14). You can install that version using pulseaudio-gitAUR). For the released version of PulseAudio (13 and older), please use the indications below.
@Kaz
Keep in mind that if you follow the wiki for this I’m not sure if the options file we added to get the speakers working will interfere? Guess you’ll see if you do this.
I have X1 Carbon 8th gen, which is pretty much the same as the 7th Gen. And only way to get sound working is following the Arch wiki for the 7th gen X1C.
You need the SOF-firmware and newest pulseaudio (pulseaudio-git) or wait for the v14 of pulseaudio which should come “soon”.
There is also ways to make it work with the v13 PA, those instructions are also in the wiki.
