I’ve dug up an old (but working) Toshiba Satellite L50 with a Conexant sound chip after another key on my trusty Thinkpad broke.
In principle, everything works as intended - were it not for the (PCH) sound card sporadically failing.
Most of the time, it comes back with:
echo 1 > /sys/bus/pci/devices/0000\:00\:1b.0/remove
echo 1 > /sys/bus/pci/rescan
I have to unmute the left speaker for “Speaker” and “Headphone” in alsa afterwards.
Today, it decided not to continue working again 
no codecs found! is what it says when I try the reload.
Does anyone have an idea where to look next?
