As far as I know (I may wrong, I’m not dream-catcher expert) they are mean’t to bring pleasant dreams.
But since he gave it to @fog and didn’t keep it himself, maybe that’s the reason he’s seeing those abyssmal nightmares you described…

Nice! And my son would approve. 
His biggest sticker also was a skeleton motif. It’s holding a cup of coffee and says, “Death before decaf.”
