Multiple emoticons for emphasis of how much I agree with the Tx40 series being awful.

However, orginal post is correct, T440 was the very last socketed Thinkpad. The {T,E}x50 moved to soldered CPU’s.

It’s possibly the ONLY thinkpad I will never purchase. This makes me want to find and build a T430 w/ a 420 keyboard and upgrade the processor.

This came yesterday for me. Raspbian on the USB is finally clear enough for my pi to be used to watch football on! After like 2 years it’s finally doing what I intended. So now it gets a more proper case.

Pic was taken on the sea ice. Some spots had no snow at all, where spikes would be good to have if it wasn’t - 19°C. The cold makes the surface super grippy.

I ride a lot in low light/no light conditions, so I followed Melon optics’ guide and got this tint. So far so good. And no fogging!

I’ve already discovered the advantage of a Mil-spec tested housing…
The T420 already took a tumble to the floor when I was about halfway down the stairs…
The dvd drive and battery went flying to the other side of the room

I thought I’d killed it for sure!
But no! Apart from a light crack in the lid above the hinge, the laptop was perfectly fine…

I snapped the screen bezel back together, put in the battery and dvd drive, and the champ booted right up, like nothing even happened!

If this were to happen to any of my other laptops, they’d be dead for sure…

It’s a complaint I’ve heard time and time again…

Just got this new Lenovo ideapad Flex 5 this week. It’s not a power beast, but pretty slick machine anyway. I’m not sure if I have much use of its touchscreen feature, but I like the keyboard and the backlight feature is nice also.

Maybe you can try out JingoOS on it? When it sees the light of day, of course…

I use to rebuild Thinkpads for resale on eBay…love them, I still have the last beast I rebuilt–a W510 Q 820-1.73, 16G memory & I put a Samsung 500g SSD in it. Don’t use it much–when the wife & I go on vacation mostly. Running Mint 20 on it (I know–but I don’t have to think about it on vacation–reasons). Has never skipped a beat–I use the “suction-cup” Track point cap–never liked the “eraser-head” or “mushroom” caps.20210116_113329

My RPi4:

RPi4

It usually uses around 100MB in RAM. However, I don’t have a desktop environment on mine.

Got myself one of those cheap mini pc’s too…
Pretty impressed with the little machine…

had it compile ncspot, while using firefox and telegram, and I actually didn’t notice too much slowdown…
Fans kept quiet the whole time too…

This will certainly replace my Odroid N2+ to serve as my silent low power consumption day to day computer

I bought the Ryzen 5 4500U with 8 gigs of RAM for my wife. Came with a stylus. Seems like a great device. I just really really want to install Linux on it.

Go for it! It’s a shame if it runs only windows. I’m sure your wife will understand…

I really dig that curved monitor behind your Thinkpad. I lately got one in 21:9
(3440x1440) myself and just love it. Amazed how much my workflow benefits. Should have gotten one much earlier.

On a side note: Your pictures resolution allows one to read the letters you have lying on your desk.

Chuwi GemiBook Pro
Intel Celeron J4125 (actually a desktop celeron, 10-watt so actively cooled)
16GB lpddr4x 2133 soldered (slow, but lots of it!)
512 GB SSD (I replaced it with 1TB, and still have another m.2 2280 slot w/ easy access hatch if I want to add an additional SSD!!!)
Intel AX200 Wifi 6 + BT
2160x1440 LCD

Love the clean looks!

Hmm—I see that…will correct the res in the future (at least nothing of interest–closed heath plan  )

Update on the “replacing the glass side panel” saga, see posts here and here for context. I just picked up the “raw” panel from the metal shop. Time to drill some mounting holes, clean it up, and settle on a paint job for it and other parts of the case.

I’m going to get so much hearts on my last purchase!

W10-Pro

It was cheap and needed a license to a computer.
